How is the 2530L better or worse than the 2630L?
« on: April 01, 2017, 10:15:23 AM »

D-link support told me that the 2530L is an upgrade and newer version, but it is less expensive and some websites seem to indicate it is not as good.  Would someone please compare and contrast these two models?

The 2630l has a speaker.
Everything else looks the same from what I remember.

That's a $50 speaker by the price differential!!

The 2530L is also smaller in all three dimensions and about $50 cheaper.  So price and size are the only advantages?

It appears not. I ran a compare at newegg.

Looks like the 2530l 1080p is only 15fps.  But for some reason the 2630l shows higher power usage.

Also listed as difference:

Sensor
1/3" 2 megapixel progressive CMOS sensor  1/3" 3-megapixel progressive CMOS sensor

You should probably go to dlink . com to look up sensor sizes.. as there might be misprints on newegg...

Maybe no PIR for the 2530L.

It's funny you mention about the $50 difference. When it first came out, I questioned why it was the same price as the 2630L ... lol

Back then I only noticed the WiFi was only wireless N which didn't make much sense.  You should compare wireless signals at dlink.com

Did not like the 2530L compared to the 2630L. 2630L won.

Just got a new 2530L, set it up, and compared it to the 2630L.

Will return the 2530L because the image is blurry and lacks contrast compared to the 2630L.

Screen shots taken.  Perhaps the 2MP vs. 3MP is the difference.

I would not have expected that much difference (without seeing images).   It should be better than a 960L?

Is there a focus ring on the 2530L?  Some models have a little rubber piece with an arrow around the lens where you can rotate it to adjust focus distance.

Are the camera settings the same setting in the camera's F/W web pages?

All good questions.  Put the 2530L and 2630L next to each other pointed to the same place outside.  Viewed the images on Android (mydlink+), iPad (mydlink+) and Safari on MacOS using IP.  Both cameras 24 feet from a strong router.  Many settings were adjusted on the 2530L and could never get the image as good as the 2630L, but the available settings are different and not equivalent.  (If you want a list or screen shots, I'll post them).   In addition it takes much longer to load in on the iPad and Android compared to the other d-link cameras, as listed below.

By poorer image:

1.  Reduced contrast
2.  Reduced sharpness
3.  Less sensitive to the supplemental IR lamp

In addition:

1.  cannot make Security Spy display the 2530L, but can make the 2630L display with Security Spy.  (5222L profile, jpg http)
2  Takes longer to connect (mydlink, IP address in browser).  In multi-view it never connects or takes two plus minutes to connect. In single view it appears within  15 seconds, slower than the 2630L and my other model d-link cameras.
3.  cannot make "uViewer for DLink cameras" display the 2530L, but this app works with all my other d-link cameras including the 2630L

So plan on replacing the 2530L with the 2630L.   The 2530L = 2MP while the 2630L = 3MP.

Does the 2530l also run hot to touch just as the 2630l?

They are both in 50- 55 degree ambient air, in the same location, on for more than 18 hours.  Using a digital thermal gun:

2630L
WiFi light area  69
left of light  80
above lens 88
Top  95
right side edge 69
top back  93 (peak temp)  top back right as views from the front

2530L
WiFi light area  79
left of WiFi light 72
Above lens 88
Top  94
right side edge 69
Top back  97  (peak heat, top right as viewed from the front)

(2630l) With night vision on and sd recording, I'm throwing more heat I believe. (Assuming my temp reading is the same as yours).

Well, it looks like the 2 cameras are about the same.

About the same with respect to temp, but NOT the same video quality.  26#0L is the clear winner.  Called tech support and the second level rep concurred, and verified 3MP vs. 2MP and the PQ difference.

Sample pictures simultaneously from the 2630L and 2530L

It's twilight now.   Put out chicken wire and bricks on the grass.  Camera settings were optimized and pictures taken within 15 seconds of each other and cameras in the same location.

Which image do you prefer?

I'm not sure why the 2530L is in night mode.

Should only compare day with day and night with night, no?

One of the points is that the 2530L goes into night mode much sooner than the 2630L.  But you are correct.  Here is a same time comparison earlier today, daytime.
