Title: Firmware still in beta?
Post by: tang on April 06, 2012, 12:42:41 AM
Hi everybody

Here is my configuration:
- DNS345 with 2 HDD in RAID1
- Lastest firmware found here ftp://ftp.dlink.fr/DNS/DNS-345/Firmware/

When I switched on the NAS, the first thing I made was to check if the firmware was up to date.
The pre-installed version was 1.0b7... b for beta I think.
On DLink ftp, I only found 1.0b8. Why only available firmware is still in beta?
I bought this kind of device to make sure my data are well protected but beta firmwares makes me doubt about the reliability of this device.
I think this product is available for more than 6 months and there is still no final firmware... A DLink support really exists for the DNS-345 ??

Thank you for your answer ;-)

There is an official release (i.e. non-beta) labeled as v1.00, which was subsequently updated (as a beta) to address some outstanding issues. From my experience with D-Link's latest ShareCenter models, the beta version is required to support HDDs larger than 2TB. The DNS-345 is a new product (the U.S. release is still pending) and D-Link is actively updating the new firmware. I'm sure you'll see many new beta and official releases in the coming future.  ;)
