Yup, iptv going, me writing to the NAS and probably even downloading from the same PC copying to the NAS from nntp.

Ok I'll check this out in the next day or two.

I'd like for you to test a WRITE to the NAS when your not streaming with the IPTV and see if the router still hangs.

Merry Christmas.  ;)

I'm sure it has hung during a transfer to the NAS w/o the iptv going, but I'll see if I can repro it in the meantime.
I also have a gigabit switch lying around, so I could potentially offload the traffic from the router as well.

Merry Christmas to you as well.

So, I just had it die on me while downloading at 35MBps and transferring to my NAS, but my NAS and my PC are connected to a gigabit switch which is connected to the router.  This would offload the NAS transfer to the switch completely, correct?  Also, the iptv box was not in use at this time.
Seems like the fast download was enough to kill the router (had to power cycle it). I wonder if it's the number of connections I have open that is causing the router to hang, for nntp I've got 60 going right now to maximize my connection/speed.

were you downloading something from the intenet while xfering to the NAS or was this download and xfer going in both directions to the NAS?

What MFr and model is this switch?

Ya the switch should be off loading the xfer between the NAS and PC. Do you see LED activity on the switch for the NAS and PC when your doing a xfer? The LED for the router on the switch should not be constantly ON while doing a xfer between the NAS and PC.

Download was from the net going to my PC HDD, transfer to NAS was from the same HDD to the NAS via the switch.
The switch is a Belkin 8 port gigabit switch, model F5D5141-8.

What LED on the router is active when transferring data? Is it on the back, because the ones on the front as solid and not flashing at all.
Switch LEDs are (heavily) active during the transfer.

Ok so what happens if you do only a READ or WRITE to the NAS from the PC. I presume you don't see any router problems right?

LED on the Belkin switch that indicates the router connection. That LED should not be constantly ON while doing a xfer from PC to NAS. Yes it will be constantly ON while doing a download from the internet thru the router.

Well since switching to this setup, I haven't had a hang until just now during the heavy download, was during NAS transfers normally while utilizing the switch, no issues.

The LEDs on the belkin switch that were active were the ones for the two ports for the NAS and the PC.

Ok. I'm thinking that if your doing heavy downloads from the Internet alone, that the router is the issue. I recommend getting on the phone with D-Link support and ask for an RMA. You can reference this thread if needed. Let us know how it goes.

Well, looks like I'm done with DLink.
RMA was approved, however to do an advanced replacement, they want to charge me $8 to cross ship, if I choose the regular replacement, they don't charge me this fee.  Seems ridiculous as I've never experienced any vendor charging an administration fee to send me a replacement unit first that is under warranty.

That's just a really poor policy and treats customers quite badly if you ask me.

Thanks for the help Furry, guess I won't be returning to the DLink forums any longer.

So why not do the regular fee. You still can get it replaced. If your still have a in store policy why not take it back to the store? You don't have a spare router to use while you wait to sent the 890L back? D-Link is honoring the warranty. I presume most other places maybe starting to charge for a cross shipping fee. Some places may not. Some places just ask for a CC number in case something happens or you keep both units. Cross shipping is a convenience and not apparent of the warranty. The warranty is being honored though. Not treating customers badly IMO.

Good Luck.

It's about the whole experience Furry, I'm well aware I can go through the standard replacement, but two things wrong here.
When I setup the RMA last week, the tech support rep said I wouldn't even have to ship the defective unit in, which I thought was great (logitech does this with their products), and now when I was told that was wrong, but I want the advanced replacement option, I have to pay an extra $*?  Again, it's all about customer service for me, product quality is the most important thing, but after that it's customer service and right now D-Link is proving that it lacks both to me.
I have another router handy for sure, I'm actually setting it up now, but my plan is to get my repaired or replaced DIR-880L back to sell it so I can use another brand going forward.
