Author Topic: My D-Link 615 keeps dropping connection every 20 minutes or so.  (Read 8296 times)

So, I've had this issue since I bought my new router which is D-Link 615. But I noticed that every 20 minutes it drops connection for at least 5 - 10 seconds. But the thing is, if I use my normal Ethernet Connection, nothing happens. So, I am thinking that my D-Link 615 is having an issue. So, any suggestion and advises would be High Appreciated... because this is so frustrating.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have? Link> Speed Testing Sites
  • By-pass the main host router and check internet connection by connecting a wired LAN PC directly to the ISP modem to verify connection access and ISP speeds.
  • Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighbouring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?
  • 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions.
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner to find out. How many?

Hello, FurryNutz.

-Hardware Version: M2
-Firmware Version: 2.0.17
-Region Located To: Kuwait
-Wired (this issue happens with wireless as well, but I would say Wired because that's what I use the most).

-ISP Service: Cable
-DIR-615
-ISP Modem/Service is using: Dyanmic
-FASTtelco (A company).
-PING ms 40 / DOWNLOAD Mbps 3.38 / UPLOAD Mbps 0.46
-Cable using: Cat6
-Not having that issue at all.
-I do not have that option on the website.

-SSID Name has changed.
-Wireless mode: 802.11 N
-I tried all of the different Wireless mode but the issue still occurs.
-I set it to 20 MHz.
-There is actually no house phones or WiFi that is causing interferences.

Fasttelco is DSL, not cable. The modem is what the phone line is connected into and then the Ethernet cable goes to the router. There should be a name and model on there somewhere.

Yes should be a modem and a Mfr name and model, maybe a sticker under it...
