FORUM USER REQUESTS and BUGS
« on: September 04, 2012, 08:49:06 AM »

This thread is in regards to what users would like to request DLink to review and consider adding features to the routers FW and operation. Also this thread includes any reports of bugs that are re-producible, that should be reviewed by DLink seen bythat should be reviewed by DLink seen by us users. Please be detailed, concise and tactful when posting the requests and bug details.

Do not arbitrarily post defects or bugs here. Before reporting concerns about defects or bugs, please ensure that troubleshooting of the problem has been thoroughly completed before posting a problem about defects. Not all issues are a defect or bug related. Let other users help you troubleshoot the problem first before posting here. Post your initial concerns or problems in the forums first before posting here. Many issues seen are not bugs. Inappropriate content will be removed.

Demanding anything will not get us anything. There are no guarantees.

Please keep other subjects, topics and questions to other threads and posts. This thread is just a central list of Features and Bugs for review by DLink.

If you like, you can PM me your list and details and I will add them to a list I've started here.  ;)

FEATURE REQUESTS:
Example: 1. Add router web page timeout options. (Would help to disable this when working with users in making operations in a slow manor or for those who like to keep the routers page open there browsers for a long period of time.)

DEFECTS:
Example: 1. At 24 MAC entries it said "You cannot add more rules because the table is full. " Need to find out if this is a defect if other rules are not set up in the pool or if there is an actual limitation on setting up the amount of MAC entries you can have.

Item 2) DIR-865L: Add a feature: "Reboot Now" / "Reboot Later" pop-up after configuration changes rather than automatically rebooting the router. Example: DGL-4500 has this feature.

Item 3) DIR-865L: Increase the current limit of 24 reserved (static) IPs to maybe 40 or 50.  Also increase all other limitations as well.

From most important to least important (to me):
1) a simple HTTP style authentication http API interface to at least the external IP address, and preferably also to reboot the router, renew/drop dhcp connection etc.  The need for this would be obliviated if I could get ssh access as per point 2:
2) ssh access to the internal busybox implementation (of course :)
3) SNMP traffic interface stats (again, not so important if I had ssh access, but useful to just work without any effort with MRTG)
4) ability to set up additional internal network routes and/or VLANs (also obliviated by point 2)

Be aware that these are home and small business class routers, you may want to use a business class router as most of these options are not used much by the avg home user which these routers are designed.

Thanks for posting.

Which is a pity, because the current design makes it intentionally difficult to scrape the IP information (that's what I most care about - what is my external IP address so I can update my dynamic DNS, given that I'm using someone else other than the 1 single DDNS solution provided in the GUI) from something other than a browser (I mean, using ajax calls authenticated weirdly and making it susceptible to cross site scripting as demonstrated in another thread here, instead of just outputting it in the html?).  My 5 year old home modem that had 16MB of RAM managed to present this over HTTP so that I could simply run `lynx --user=admin --pass=foo http://gateway/status`
That inexpensive 6 year old modem also did SNMP and I could renew the DHCP lease or reboot over a similar HTTP query.

Maybe D-Link has something that would work for your needs and desires. Why not call them up and ask.

Good Luck.

I would love to have the feature to add Custom Dynamic DNS where I can enter my DDNS provider information such "dns.loopia.se" which is required for me to be able to use this feature. They say in the manual to be able to use it for that purpose. I personally bought this particular model for that reason that I could use this particular function which for me is absolutely necessary to be able to update my domains.
I hope that D-Link takes this very seriously, and will have a fix for this as soon as possible!
I have this feature on my old D-Link DIR 655

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

This model router is no longer being developed on.

This thread is not closed. Thank you all for your feed back, comments and information regarding the DIR-865L.

The DIR-865L has been phased out and there will be no more FW updates unless something major is found. Forum support will be available. Free phone support for this product will end on 01/01/2015.

Last FW version released for the DIR-865L is v1.06

For users looking for a similar router and features, recommend router models to review are the DIR-866L and DIR-868L Rev B router models for your needs.

Good Luck.
