Is it possible for the existing cameras in the upcoming firmware updates to support video compression standard H.265?
It's the newer standard and can support the same quality at half the bandwidth. This would be especially useful for lower internet connectivity speeds.
I have these devices:
2x DCS-2630L
2x DCS-5222LB1
2x DCS-2332L
I really hope it's possible and already in the works. A reply would be appreciated!

Honestly, we are lucky to have h264 rolled out. That took a while. Only worked on a poor connection at first, and in small frame sizes.
One can hope though,but I seriously wouldn't plan on it.

There is a 10year difference between the 1st rollout of H264 (2003) and H265 (2013)!
I'm sure most devices can support it but doesn't look like anytime soon. I checked their business cams and even their new ones are rolling out with H264 so that sucks!
They could also put more effort into developing the app...so many good suggestions from people on this forum but still no updates.

So it seems H.265\HEVC requires a lot more processing power and doesn't look like any of the current D-Link cameras will support it ever.
Also, there is a high licensing cost apparently.
Those 2 reasons seem to be why you don't have that many HEVC\H.265 video compression cameras out there aside from some Chinese models which I wouldn't buy.
What's really interesting is this royalty free codec by the "Alliance for Open Media" coming this year:

I found this article here. We should probably expect/need it for 4k/8k cameras in the future.
(I'm not entirely convinced with the 1080p comparison in the article, looks more like a camera difference to me)

I presume it may be supported on future camera model if and when they do.

Correct. Cameras will definitely need a new board/processor/memory to work with HEVC/H.265. Existing cameras will not be able to handle it. This isn't a simple firmware upgrade. Hopefully we will see it in the future but probably won't be for a while, or nothing inexpensive for the home.
