Title: DIR-842 2.02 B2 unstable
Post by: chanwei21 on October 02, 2018, 05:34:21 PM
Hi, My DIR-842 firmware versions 2.02 B2.
Problem#1: Causes my wireless devices can't connect to my multiple AP devices on the whole building, like DIR-513A.
need to log-in to DIR-842 and reboot the DIR-842 so can get normally access again to wifi from the whole building.

Problem#2: sometimes LAN on PC gets no limited connections can't access to internet, can't even load the log in page of DIR-842.
need a manual power off to restart the device to let everything getting well.

so eventually this model of router isn't really stable.
I have two of this router in different location building and cause same problem.

hope D-LINK can implement a reboot schedule so I can reboot it daily automatically.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

Re: Slow wireless performance while on 5GHz?

I found the solution after days of testing.

Same problem. Slow 5Ghz performance, while 2.4Ghz and LAN cable works perfect.
With 5Ghz I was getting only 10Mbps download. With 2.4Ghz 40Mbps and LAN is 200Mbps. My ISP is 200Mbps,

I am on European version.

What you need to do to fix 5Ghz issue is to change some settings through admin panel. So just login to D-LINK admin page and update the settings I will list below.

1) Settings >> Wireless >> 5GHz
802.11 Mode: 802.11ac only
Wi-Fi Channel:   Auto
Transmission Power: High
Channel Width: Auto 20/40/80 Mhz

2) Settings >> Wireless >> WI-FI PROTECTED SETUP
PBC: DISABLED
PIN: DISABLED

3) Settings >> Wireless >> Guest Zone

2.4GHz and 5GHz DISABLED!

4) Settings >> Network >> Advanced Settings
IPv4 Multicast Streams: DISABLED
IPv6 Multicast Streams: DISABLED

5) Management >> System Time >>Automatic Time Configuration.

Update Time Using an NTP server: DISABLED

After updating settings restart the router and 5Ghz will score 200Mbps download now instead of 10Mbps.

What happens if you re-enable IPv4 Multicast Streams? I highly doubt that this will impact 5Ghz performances...
