Router reboots every minute
« on: December 11, 2017, 02:57:23 PM »

Recently today my router just keeps rebooting I even got it to factory reset but still no go. I'm not sure on what to do here. It's on FW 1.37na HW a4 and we have had it for some time.

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
  Link> >FW Update Process
  • Was the router working before any firmware updates?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

Check the power adapter voltage and amps on the tip.
Test in different out let. Also test router in different location to see if problem follows.

I would disconnect everything from the router accept for 1 LAN cable connected PC. Do a factory reset on the router using the button in back and hold for 5 seconds. See if your PC gets an IP address and you can access the web page for the router at 192.168.0.1 using IE11 or FF.

Chrome updates there browser beyond the abilities of this router which is getting older now. So the web code of the router maybe not be compatible with Chrome. I recommend using IE11 with compatibility mode enabled or use FF. I don't recommend Chrome anyways since we've experienced it bricking routers when doing FW updates.

Follow this for doing any FW updates:

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have? Link> Speed Testing Sites
  • Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values

***** IF the ISP modem has a router built in, this can cause problems as well:
  • If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. Call the ISP and ask to see if the ISP modem can be bridged. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on a Router

im gonna try answering the best i can here

modem is a ZyXEL HLA3105.
Verizon FiOS Actiontec MI424WR is the router they gave us.
We have Cable/Frontier with a 30D/30U connection
pretty sure its Cat6 cables but as far i know for a about a year or so this router has had no problems since we got frontier. the router they gave us is not a gateway(router+modem). i havent checked our MTU never had to. the only reason i used the Dlink router cause it has better firewall for gaming.

Ok, I would check to see if you can bridge the ActionTec router or if not, use the DMZ on the ActionTec router for the DIR router. Your in a double NAT condition which will cause problems with the router and devices down stream.

I presume the ActionTec router is getting the public IP address from the modem/Service? i.e. ##.##.###.### and not a 192.168.#.something address which is private?

Ok, wasn't sure if you had been. I presumed incorrectly.

If your going from modem to DIR and it's been working then that configuration should still work.
If anything, you might do a full factory reset on the router with out it being connected to modem, re-load a fresh same version FW file using IE11 or FF, then factory reset then set up the router from scratch with the modem connected and see now it works.

Well, keep an eye on it. Should work well for you.

I would also set manual channels on the radio if you can. 11 on 2.4Ghz.
