dir-628 not connecting to new cable modem
« on: June 22, 2015, 02:38:08 PM »

Hello all,
I have a dir-628 router H/W ver: A2, F/W ver: 1.12. I had it paired with a time warner modem, which I just "upgraded" at the recommendation of the cable company. The new modem given to me is a arris TG1672G.

Since connecting the new modem, the router is no longer connecting to the internet. After connecting everything as it was, my devices are connecting to my network, but the network itself wont connect to the internet. I tried connecting to the internet without the router thru an ethernet cable connected to the new modem, and I can connect to the internet just fine. On a separate note, before swapping out the modems, my dir-628 would consistently go in and out every few days. And id have to unplug the router to get it to reconnect. Am I stuck having to buy a new one?

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Link>Welcome!

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. Call the ISP and ask to see if the ISP modem can be bridged. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.
