I somehow ended up with version 9.04NA July 10 2013 installed (forgot where I downloaded it) but when I check the URLs below it shows version 9.03 as the latest official version ....

http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DIR-615
ftp://ftp2.dlink.com/PRODUCTS/DIR-615/REVI/

Do I have the wrong or some unofficial version installed? If 9.04 is the latest official version where do I find it online?

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router. There maybe a number displayed after the letter (I). What is it?

I only see v9.03 as being the last official release for Rev I...

Hmm..ok..well I do see a v9.04 for Rev I2 and I3, I might presume that maybe it might be applicable to Rev I1. If it's working, leave it and enjoy it.

Went back to 9.03, any idea why it shows "5, Oct, 2012" on my routers status page instead of the 6/24/13 date on the download page?

The web page is just an actual date of when the posted it to the web. Those dates may not be accurate or reflect what is seen on the status page on the router.

It should work for you though. Enjoy.

Ok, just seems odd as 6/24/13 is also in the release notes of the firmware, seems like normally the date in the release notes is the date of the firmware not the date it was posted to the web. Also your first post shows Sept 10th 2013 as the date is was available for download.

Ya I know. They've made some changes recently late last year with the main site and ftp. All the dates are not correct. I wouldn't worry about it. If I see v9.04 posted I'll post it here. You should be good though. Come back and visit if you need any help or info.

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
>FW Update Process

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
  • Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Ensure that different SSID names are used between each WiFi 2.4/5Ghz radios. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighbouring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?
  • 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
  • What wireless devices do you have connected?
  • Ensure any devices with WiFi adapter drivers are updated.
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Use v3, its free.
  • If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, Extra Wireless Protection and HT 20/40 Co-existence if you have it. Also testing with HT20/40Mhz Co-existence enabled will impact results as well. I prefer to use this option OFF. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

thanks for the reply.

i'm in north america.
no i hadn't done Factory Reset.  :-\

i'm using the router more as a wireless access point connected to my router via a LAN port on the 615.
the 615 is on the same 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0 network as my router. my router not the 615 handles the DHCP.
the 615 IP was changed to 192.168.2.1, and DHCP disabled on the 615.

devices are a couple of androids, ipod touch, ipad, and a laptop.

would interference cause the Wi-Fi to shut off?
i have cordless phones but the bases and phones are in other rooms.

i manually set up the router when i bought it with firmware 9.00NA

Enable Wireless √ Always
a long unique SSID is used
mode 802.11n only
Wireless Channel 1 (least used in my neighborhood. 6 is hammered)
Channel Width Auto 20/40MHz
Visibility Status Invisible
WPA personal
WPA2 only
cipher AES
Group key update interval 3600
long key used

i did a hard reset. and used settings above.

under advanced wireless settings
WLAN partition is enabled
WMM enable is checked and grey
Short GI enabled
HT20/40Mhz coexistence enabled and grey.

i don't remember those setting being greyed out like that.
would prefer the more secure settings, and not have connected clients be able to connect to each other.

anyway, i did a hard reset, manually entered, and it's up and running. hoping for the best.
thanks

Interferences can cause the WiFi to be come inoperable until a reboot. Channel usage and near by devices running on 2.4Ghz can cause this.

WLAN Partition is more secure and will prevent wifi clients from connecting to each other. In newer generation models, I believe this feature has been removed due to the more need of wifi clients to be connected to each other and share things.

So if you are using single mode N, WPA2/AES only, 20/40Mhz Coexistence should be disabled for best performance. Not sure why it's not selectable to disable...

Let us know how the reset and re-configuration works...
