registered to see if i can get some help troubleshooting my dgl4500. unfortunately my return time has expired and i'm saving customer support as a "last resort"

i've had my router since september 2011, it came with v1.21 fw installed and the wireless would drop *constantly*, so i found the downgrade to 1.15. this made the router bulletproof, at least until now.

within the past week, the router has been rebooting itself usually 2-3 times a day. some days it's fine, but today as an example, i logged on for work and it rebooted twice within an hour.

i decided to try the latest firmware to see if it fixed the issue (1.23na), and it rebooted two more times after upgrading. today in total there have been about 5 reboots.

specs on my setup:
-currently fw 1.23na (prior was 1.15)
-hw version a2
-wireless mixed g and n
-2.4GHz band (for compatibility with all devices)
-channel 8 (was set to auto prior)
-transmission rate - auto
-channel width - auto
-i assign static ip's to every device
-xbox setup via the recommended settings in this forum
-wish off, wifi protected setup off
-dmz setup for obi voip box (only thing that seemed to work was putting it in dmz)

the only thing that i've change within the last couple weeks is the wireless channel. i had it setup for auto channel scan previously, but channel 8 seemed to be the least cluttered, so i assigned that channel.

is there any reason having a specific channel assigned could cause random reboots? i'm trying to figure out if there is a misconfiguration or the router itself just started dying on me. i need reliable internet access for work, so i'm trying to get this sorted out as soon as i can, even if that means i need to buy a new router.

What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.

Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI, WLAN Partition and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Do you see the router reboot if you turn off the WiFi radio to test?

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.

Are you wired or wireless connected to the router? when working i tend to use wired almost exclusively. my wife uses the wireless on her laptop, and i use wireless if i bring the laptop in the living room.

when i said i assigned static ip's for my devices, i meant on the router, not the device themselves

I would presume that if the router had been working well, even after you down graded then the problems have returned that, it's possible that external conditions are the cause of the router reboots. I might turn OFF the Wireless radio to test and see if the router stops rebooting.

You have a good modem as the SB 6 series is the best. I've tested 3 of them.

yes, i was pleasantly surprised when i upgraded to the sb modem. just doing that increased my download/upload speeds

i logged on this morning at 6am and the router had just rebooted itself. i've turned off the wifi radio and will test the rest of the day to see what happens.

is there a good alternative for mac? my desktop has no wireless capabilities at all, so i don't think inSSIDer will work.

 . looks like kismac hasn't been updated for current versions of mac os. oh well. i downloaded a wifi analyzer on my android phone and see a handful of wifi networks around. some in channels 1-3 and others in 9-12.

iStumbler looks to work ok. not pretty, but shows me nearby networks, security type, protocol, signal strength, channel, frequency, mac address, vendor, etc, etc, etc

closest network is 40% signal, 13% noise, channel 11, frequency 2462.

update on reboots: i've have ZERO reboots since this morning. going on >5 hours uptime so far with wireless turned off. i wouldn't call this conclusive evidence that the wireless is the problem, but it is leaning more towards that direction.

Did you download it and see if it would work on them? Curious if it does or not. I presume I should. 

yes, i tried downloading and installing. when it didn't work, i checked the website and saw it wasn't really compatible with newer versions.

Curious. Do you have everything checked to log?  That might give a hint as to why it keeps rebooting.   Of course, do this after you run with the wireless 'off' for a day or so.  It's never good to change too many things at once while troubleshooting.
