Title: Any issue with router connected to an inverter?
Post by: stevens71 on June 27, 2016, 04:04:12 AM
Hey guys! A friend got me a new DLink DIR 868L wireless router. I decided to install it in my office and want to connect it to my Staticon Staticvolt inverter (http://www.staticon.ca/product-detail/stativolt-inverter-ups-systems), which powers all other devices like modem, PCs without any serious issues. But a colleague just said that connecting to inverters or UPS can seriously reduce the life of the router and I shouldn't do that. My first instinct says to regard what he says as rubbish. But just want to confirm and don't want to take any risk. The router will be fine, right? Please give a reply soon. Thanks!

As long as you don't exceed the power adapters voltage specifications seen on the adapter, it should be fine. UPS is suggested for routers, modems and PCs if you need to keep power during a power outage. Just be sure not to connect power strips to a UPS. Directly connect devices the the UPS device alone. I have my router, modem and network switch connected to a UPS. I haven't seen one of these inverters so I presume if it also doesn't exceed the power specifications of the routers power adapter and provides stable power at those levels, should be ok. Might contact the Mfr of this inverter to be sure.

Thank you for the reply! I will make sure if the specifications are alright before installing the router.
PS: My device is version A, uses firmware: 1.09.B08

Interesting device?  What power is the inverter hooked into?

You can read online about sine wave issues with routers and ups devices.

In my experience, I haven't had a problem that I'm aware of.  If the router last 5 years, that's long enough for me.
