By
...N style connection...
you mean connectivity over 54 Mbps.

At 1-2 feet, I would say

APC or refrigerator near by.
possibly a cordless phone or
May be just too close for a multiple path.
Or b/g interference
Not using 1.02 firmware
may be you aren't using WPA2 encryption.

Please provide details of your network and components, including configuration.

I've got the DGL-4500 hooked to a cable modem and a desktop PC via cat 5 cable.  I'm attempting to wirelessly connect with a thinkpad w/ an Intel 4965AGN adapter.  I'm using WPA2 security.  My network is currently running at 2.4GHz with Auto channel width and channel selection.  I've attempted to connect with my wireless phone disconnected, but that seems to have no effect.  I have no back power supply and my fridge is aways away.

Any assistance that can be provide will be much appreciated.

Good answers, except one is missing. Are you using 1.02 firmware?

I also think I see the problem, not using a D-Link card.

Make sure you have the wireless channel width on the router set to 20/40MHz and are using the most updated drivers for your Intel card. Check the rest of the D-Link forums for other Intel posts.

Talks a little about Intel cards.

What is the link or connection speed that you are getting?
54Mbps or 130?
