Has anyone have an issue with configure FileZilla server and connecting to it via Public isp address. Locally I have it configured properly and it works okay, however, if im outside of my network I can't get access but when i run the FileZilla test it shows successful access in PASV mode.
I have also tried accessing the FZS server from a web browser such as FF and IE and i get a password and user id prompt, but am unable to access at all. I have disabled windows firewall comodo firewall, router firewall and have set port 21 to ip address of the machine. As well as going to ftptest.com !!!!
I am running out of ideas and going insane trying to get this to work successfuly.
If anyone have had this issue please, provide a fix for this or any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Is the server in the DMZ or did you setup port forwarding?

its working now, apparently after countless trials and error, i have got it working and ftptest.net shows it as successful.

Could you tell me what the trick was? I was using SimpleFTP and I was having some issues. Was using it to host game replies. (Shhh, don't tell my ISP, LOL). Some friends could access it, some couldnt. One thing I learned quick, Chrome can't do FTP and FF can't unless you have a ad-on for it.

Unfortunatly it seems that the only way to get FileZilla server to work outside of the network was to DMZ it. After I enabled it, it was a successful test from ftptest.net (http://ftptest.net) . Bad thing was when I re-enabled the firewall and disabled the DMZ, it still gives no access outside the network via http://ftptest.net (http://ftptest.net) . So it has to be a router issue. ??? ??? ??? but i will keep trying to see if there is any other way to do so. Any suggestions would be great.
Is there any other settings other than DMZ the PC that is the file server ?
PS. thanks for the reply.

How about setting up a port rule in Gaming and see if that helps resolve it with out having to use the DMZ? Just add the IP address and add the port that your using for FileZilla. I presume it only uses a specific one? You can only add one rule in Gaming. Let us know.

That was the first thing I did, was setup the gaming rule for FZS, to port 21, and still getting the dreaded " Reply: 425 Can't open data connection. " error. I have also created a " Special Applications rule" as well, and still no luck. ??? ??? ??? ???
As to oppose disabling all firewall and anti-virus that were enabled as well.

Makes me think that there could be something different or a different port that the router is blocking besides port 21 that FZ uses to connect. Any other ports that FZ uses by chance?

Okay, I figured it out.....Apparently when setting up my FZS server I was to believe to setup a "Gaming" rule for it, meaning I would need to port forward out the file server address of the machine 192.168.0.xxx to port 21. Thinking that it was going to work outside the network....successfully. However it did not. Then I had tried other settings such as "Special Application" Rules to Trigger port 21....with http://ftptest.net, and again it did not work however, I get the dreaded error that every newbie gets the "425 Can't open data connection". Then I was down to my last option that I could think of....lets use the " Virtual Server Settings " and what do you know, my pain and suffering went away ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D !!!!

Kewl, how was it actually set up..would be nice to know the steps.

yeah, it would be nice, I will attempt to write up a tutorial and the steps required for a fully functional filezilla server with the DGL-4500. ;D

Awesome. Be descriptive as much as possible. See if we can maybe get a sticky for it. Glad it works for you though.

I hope I can help a little here... I just got my setup working, my goal was to remove my local IP from the DMZ and still have Filezilla work.
Filezilla settings:
Passive mode settings->
"Use the following IP" (I'm using DynDNS for this, so its my external IP name)
"Use custom port range:" ( Filezilla suggests 5000 and above, so I used 5000 - 5100)
DGL-4500 settings:
Advanced->
Virtual Server:
Name:(FTP) IP:(my local IP) Public port:(21) Private port(21) (Always, Allow All)
Special Applications:
Name:(FTP) Trigger ports: (Both-> 5000-5100) Filewall ports: (Both-> 5000-5100) (Always)
Gaming:
Name:(FTP) IP:(my local IP) TCP ports(5000-5100) UDP ports(5000-5100) (Always, Allow All)
These settings got me up and running. I had my server up for a while by putting my local system IP in the DMZ but this is not the most secure way to have it setup. I don't think you need to use UDP ports in the forwarding and firewall, but I didn't feel like testing anymore. :P
