Author Topic: Has anyone gotten email alerts to work with a public SMTP Server?  (Read 4737 times)

From reading another post on here, I found that gmail and many other public mail servers won't work because of the SSL requirement, which isn't supported on firmware 1.02a.  I have no interest in building my own mail server, hence I wondered if anyone has had any luck setting up this email feature with other public SMTPs, and if so, if they can share the names of them?

I currently receive alerts to AOL mail without issue.  I am using the 1.03 beta and have not tried email alerts on earlier iterations.

**UPDATE**
I can get email to work by restoring to factory defaults.
It seems loading fwv1.02 config file will break email however as when restore config, email = fail.
I have just restored to defaults, re-configured manually and now send mail is fine.

As above, my email alerts were working prior to updating to ver1.03 66

I'm struggling to get this working with smtp.comcast.net, do you mean using the button "restore to factory default settings" on the "Maintenance" tab under the sidebar "Settings?

Or do you mean using the "reset" hole in the back of the unit?

Thanks for any help.

Soft reset in maintainence, then manually configure.  Do not load older version config if you have flashed to v1.03

Having said that, I am able to receive syslog only - all other functions for email are not sending - refer to comments in http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=5359.15
