Is it possible to connect the camera directly to my Windows laptop via WiFi? That is, not use a router as the middleman between the two devices. Just have the two pieces of equipment connecting; the camera for capturing the video and the laptop 50 feet away for viewing what the camera is picking up.
If this is possible will someone please point me to a tutorial or provide directions?
Thank you in advance,
Andrew

I believe that is called ad-hoc mode. To change that setting, from the camera's UI, go to Setup > Wireless Setup > Basic Wireless Settings > Connection Mode > Ad-hoc. You first need to be connected to the camera though to access the UI and change the setting.

Yes, I've seen the description of ad-hoc mode and it seems that is what I need. But I've tried implementing ad-hoc mode without success. But not knowing what I was doing perhaps I did it wrong. I can't find any instructions in the manual, online, or in this forum. I'd appreciate any instructions on how to set this up.
Thanks,
Andrew

What are you doing?
So you put it in ad hoc mode and what happens?

You're on page 25,right?
ftp://ftp2.dlink.com/PRODUCTS/DCS-930L/REVA/DCS-930L_MANUAL_1.00_EN.PDF (http://ftp://ftp2.dlink.com/PRODUCTS/DCS-930L/REVA/DCS-930L_MANUAL_1.00_EN.PDF)

Correct, page 25.
Wireless is enabled
SSID was changed to IPcam1
Connection Mode changed to Ad-Hoc
Security Mode changed to None
Changes Saved
Going to the Status tab I see the settings verified.
I've since done more research and found out how to enable an ad-hoc connection on Win 8.1. I did it and am connected to the IPcam1 network. However when type in the IP address I see in the status tab or type in localhost in the browser I do not see the camera.

Isn't it 192.168.x.120?
X is 0 or 1?
You should see the camera in the wifi list and ininiate the connection there?
-
When I look in the system tray I see I'm connected with 'limited' (no internet) access. I do not see the network listed in my WiFi list.
I've tried 192.168.1.77 (the DHCP address when using wired). Also:
19.168.0.20
192.168.0.120
192.168.1.20
192.168.1.120
localhost
I've also tried each by putting :80 at the end of the address.
No luck

Try ...0.1 and ...1.1
I have a fresh dcs-2230 that I'll try with in ad hoc mode hopefully tonight.
Also (I'm not sure in win 8.1), you can get into ip connections and double click on the connection or get into details. .. it should give you an ip addy there of the gateway or connection.

I'm still working on this, but may not have the opportunity to post back here on a regular basis. I just wanted to mention it so it's not thought that I'm ignoring the thread.
Thank you,
Andrew
