Fan Operation
« on: March 05, 2010, 12:24:26 PM »

Hi,

I just purchased and installed a DNS-321.  I upgraded the firmware to 1.03.  I've been backing up data onto the unit and have noticed that the fan never seems to go on except upon turning on of the unit.  At what point should the fan go on.  The internal sensor says the unit is 107 degrees F or 42C?

Has anyone encountered this type of problem?

I believe you haven't hit the temperature for the fan to come on yet. :)  D-Link mentioned the temperature spread in the past, but I seem to recall it was higher than that.  That's not all that warm, note the SMART readings for the drives will probably be cooler.  Here's what mine is doing right now, it's in a basement closet.

System Temperature:     105°F / 41°C

The two drives are at 84°F / 29°C

The fan is not running.
