DGL-4500 & Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG
« on: January 18, 2009, 10:13:03 AM »

EDIT: I did some more testing this afternoon and have ruled out the DGL-4500.  I installed a PCMCIA 802.11g adapter I had laying around in my wife's laptop and encountered the same exact behavior as the 3945.  This pointed to something else on the machine causing the problem.  Long story short, my wife's IT group installed version 11 of Symantec Enpoint Security on her laptop, but failed to install the latest Maintenance Release.  Apparently Symantec's software breaks wireless connections using WPA (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/2326c6a13572aeb788257363002b62aa/9e4fa1f5421f354388257377007095e2?OpenDocument).

I'm having issues getting my wife's work laptop to connect and authenticate with our DGL-4500.  This is the only wireless client we have had problems connecting.  I have updated the 3945's driver to the latest available from Intel (12.2), and updated the DGL's firmware to 1.15, but neither update had an effect.  The laptop running the 3945 will detect the network and appear to authenticate using windows, but gets stuck at the 'Acquiring network address' phase.  It never receives a proper IP from the DGL-4500's DHCP server.  Setting a static IP results in windows saying that it is connected, but pinging the DGL-4500--or any other device on the LAN--results in timeouts.  I have also followed Intel's directions to disable Power Save Polling (PSP), but that too failed to correct the problem.

Any assistance you can provide is appreciated.

I have had this problem too for a long while and Dlink refuses to get a damn adapter to test it out and fix this problem. It even happens with the 2200bg adapter.
