Why is my range so limited
« on: November 15, 2010, 04:10:57 PM »

Using Dap-2553, I find the network out of range when I go upstairs and the unit is on ground floor.
Ditto when set up the other way around, with unit upstairs.

This is in an old 1 1/2 story house,  So I am nearly directly above the dap-2553  no more than 12-15 (actual) feet away.

My old unit, a wap-2100AP was able to make that distance ok.

That is, (and this is maybe the real problem) until I moved to windows 7.

With the older unit I was using an older gateway laptop running windows vista.

It appears that in addition to having the networking dialog rather confusing and obfuscated (unless things just work). there is something different with win 7 setup aor settings so that even that short distance is enough to be out of reach.

I tried both wap-2100AP and dap-2553 (from win 7) and neither will now make that short distance.

I'm not sure what settings I need to post or how to get a brief summary other than posting a screen shot of the basic settings page which is at the end of this message.

Is it likely that something in the win 7 setup is causing the problem?
