DGS-1100-08 - Management IP not responding after A/C loss
« on: July 24, 2017, 05:48:14 PM »

Hi,

I've got issue with a brand new DGS-1100-08. Every time there a power loss, the management IP won't respond after power recovered. To be able to connect to the management UI, I need to perform a reset with the reset button, which also reset my VLAN settings and it's kinda anyoing.

I try with DHCP and static IP
When I ping the IP i've got "Destination host unreachable."
Management IP is in 172.27.27.0/24 subnet

Model # : DGS-1100-08
HW Rev : B1
FW # : 1.00.016

Thank you for your help!

Etienne

Is there any configuration save to file feature on this switch that you can save the configuration too after you have set it up?

Thanks for the reply FurryNutz!

Yes there is a save to file option and I'm using it to restore my settings but this is still inconvenient. If someone with the exact same switch could confirm me if he got the same issue or not it would help me to decide if I return the switch.

If you pull the power cable out and back in, you cannot access the switch?

You may want to reflash the firmware and then do a factory reset after.

Does this happen with every port? Try multiple computers?

That's exactly it!

I already reflash the firmware, with the same because it's the only one available. I also performed a factory reset after
I tried with more than one computer, some running windows 10 and others with ubuntu 16.04. I also try with different port.
Just to make sure ot is clear, only the ip of the management ui stop responding, the traffic between ports still work.

With the help of D-Link tech support, we found that this is related to the DHCP implementation in the switch.

As soon as the switch is configured in DHCP, i need to perform a soft reset (holding reset button for 2 sec) in order to regain connectivity after a power loss.
I configured the switch with a static IP and now it's ok, no need to soft reset anymore.

I'm pretty sure I already tried that but the d-link tech also pointed me that the switch does not save to NVRAM automatically. this mean if you change the IP of you switch, you need to make sure to go back in UI with the new IP to save the configuration to NVRAM. If not, IP settings will be lost at next AC loss.

Thanks for letting us know about this. Wonder if D-Link will change this behavior.

At least you can save the configuration for use when it happens. Thanks for letting us know.
