DNS-325 Unrespnosive
« on: February 22, 2017, 01:58:33 PM »

I have a dns-325 that I have lost the admin password for. I have tried to reset to default but nothing happens, I have held the button for up to 2 Mins with no effect. It boots to 2 orange flashing HDD status lights regardless of whether drives are present or not. What can I do?

Might check the power adapter and voltage and amps on the tip to see if they match whats on the sticker.

Factory reset should be done with the drives in. The factory reset will not remove any data on the drives. It just resets the user configurations in the UI is all.

If you connect the DNS to the main host router, is it getting an IP address from the router? Check the routers connected clients table to see. If it's getting an IP address, try to log into this IP address in IE11 or FF.

It's getting an IP address. I can see the webUI but that's it. The flashing amber lights are with the drives in or out.

I will check the Power adapter though

Everything looks good for the power adapter. Still flashing orange though, even with drives in

And you can't access the DNS UI after a factory reset using the IP address it's getting from the main host router?

What browser are you using? Try IE11, Opera and FF.

What does the user manual say for the blinking LED? Usually a status meaning behind it.

I can access the UI. The unit is not being reset to factory, it always tells me I have entered an incorrect password even after holding the reset button for 10 seconds to reset the unit

And after doing the factory reset, the default user is admin and the password is blank so no value here...

LED Meanings: http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DNS-325
USB LED This light will illuminate when a USB device is inserted into the USB Port. When there’s traffic this light will blink.
HDD LEDs These lights will be solid when the drives are connected but inactive. The lights will blink when the drives are being
accessed, formatted or synchronized. They will illuminate AMBER if a drive has failed.

Power Button Press once to power on the device. To power down, press and hold the button until it begins to blink.
Drive Bays With the front cover off, SATA hard drives can be slid in and out of the of device. Use the tabs on the rear of the device
to initially push a hard drive out.

And you don't recall the old PW?

Only other things I can think of would be to try a different PC with the DNS or take the DNS to a different location with a different PC and see. Might try one new or known working HDD in the DNS and see what the LEDs do. Something different. Take these two drives out. Be sure to not loose there DNS positions.

This users info help any?

This unit is hitting EOL and support ends on 9.1.2017 so you might get in contact with D-Link support soon regarding this.
