How to setup Internet Cap
« on: June 16, 2015, 04:15:46 PM »

Hey everyone,

I am new to the D-Link software that was included on my router and I am not sure how to set a monthly network usage cap.

My ISP is capping me and my two other roommates at 250GB (ouch) per month and I'd like a cap that doesn't allow us to go over.

Is this even possible?

Thanks in advance!   ;D

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Most D-Link routers don't have any usage cap management features. They do have QoS to help manage bandwidth and prioritize some traffic and you can set some priorities for low priority. You may need to ask your ISP for a higher limit on usage or try to manage and control the usage at the PC/device level.

Hardware version: A1

Firmware Version: 1.01 , 29, Aug, 2013

I'm located in the South West

Would it be alright if I flashed it to DDWRT? Or would that void the warranty on the router?

Thanks

Technically it would void the warranty however if you were to load WRT on the router you can go back to OEM FW if you were able to still apply OEM FW. If the router becomes fully bricked and inoperable while WRT was loaded then you would be SOL on warranty. However, looking at the WRT site, theres no support for WRT for this model router.  :-\
