Hi, I have a DIR 859 dual band router.  I'm having a lot of trouble with a wireless printer, (Epson XP640)  which can connect but keeps dropping the connection and the shared key.  I had named both the 2.4 & the 5 GHz bands the same & with the same password, I was told by Epson that I should name them differently and make sure both the computer and printer are set to use the 2.4 GHz only.  I have renamed the 2.5 GHz band in the D-Link control panel and changed the network adapter to prefer the 2.4 on the computer.  When I check the status of my connection it is still connected to the 5 GHz wireless name.  Show available networks lists only the 5 GHz network and other locals I see all the time but not the newly named network.  I am finding this pretty confusing, been at it all day, does anyone have any insights.
Thanks
Chris

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Does this model have Smart Connect? If so, disable Smart connect and give a different SSID name to each radio and see if this helps.

Hi,
Thanks for replying.
I have a DIR 859  H/W Ver. : A3 F/W Ver: 1.04
I am in Toronto Canada.
I ran a search in the users guide for smart connect and got nothing, by this do you mean a WPS button?
If so how would I disable it?
Should I reload the software for the printer?

If you don't see Smart Connect anywhere then it's probably not available on this model router. WPS is different.

I would do this, change the 2.4Ghz wireless settings to WPA2 Personal and set security mode to TPIK only and manual channel 11 on the router then see if your printer will connect to the router.

This router does not have Smart Connect.

EDIT: Actually I looked up the printer and this model only supports 2.4GHz. I am not sure how this printer is listing 5 GHz networks.
