problem view camera on mydlink lite - remote connection
« on: December 06, 2016, 05:34:24 AM »

good morning,
I have a new dcs 935 and 4 dcs 932 LB1. For some weeks I can not see them properly remotely. A few times with a reboot they return to work and sometimes they return to work by themselves. The same thing happens to a friend of mine who has two dcs 933 ... he sees one remote and the other not.

If you look in your local network are seen properly. The router is properly configured. we have an Apple Timecapsule as the main router. the firmware updated. I tried to restore but it does not change.

Have you any idea?

thanks

Samuele

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email. Saw similar problems with my DNR-202L. I had to contact support.

Let us know how it goes please.

Just to add  - I have the same (or similar) problem with two cameras and one smart plug. All of them have the latest firmware. They have reserved IP addresses on the router:

1 DCS-935L
1 DSC-2330L
1 DSP-W215

They are at a remote location in the mountains, connected to the internet via a mobile router. Occasionally, one or all of them go offline (red cross in mydlink app / mydlink Home app). They may come back online by themselves, but not always. But they are ok on the local network (if I for example check with the app “IP Cam Viewer” I can see the video). If I reboot the mobile router, they come back online in the app. So, I programmed the router to reboot every night at 3 am. This kept them (and me) happy for a while. But then the DCS-935 did not show up any more. After a couple of weeks, I drove up there to check. I had to reboot the camera to get it online again. To solve this problem without driving to the mountain each time, I added a timer to the power plug of the camera. This turns the camera off for two minutes three nights a week. Hopefully this will get them going…

(And then there is the problem with DCS-935 broadcasting its own SSID while it is connected to the router – but this problem has been covered in another thread…)

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router?
How many other wireless devices do you have connected to the main host router?
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner to find out. How many?

I recommend setting a static IP address ON the cameras outside of the main host routers default DHCP IP address pool as a troubleshooting step: DHCP

Test cameras with uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding both enabled on ALL cameras: DCS Cloud (L) Series Camera Configuration and Mydlink.com

Seems like this could be a main host router issue.

I am in Europe – to be more specific, Norway. The mobile carrier delivers the modem/router. The user manual says “LTE CPE (ALR-U) Series supporting LTE Band 3/7/20/31”. It has only 2.4 GHz for wireless. The mode is WPA2-PSK, and the distances to the devices are 15 – 20 feet, with good signal strength. This is a remote location in the mountains, so there is nothing else in the vicinity which could interfere with the wireless. The only other wireless device is a temperature meter.

BUT there could be one source causing interference: The unwanted SSID from DCS-935. I have checked the channels with a WiFi Analyzer on an Android tablet. The router uses channel 9, and the SSID from DCS-935 is on the same channel, with approx. the same signal strength. This SSID is not constant, it stays on for about 5-10 seconds. The off for maybe 30-40 seconds, then on again.

The modem may switch frequencies, depending on other mobile traffic in the area. But it seems to keep the same WAN IP address, even when switching bands.

The keyword here is “remote”, and now the snow starts coming in the mountains, with difficult driving conditions. It is therefore difficult to do any testing right now. Worst case may be April/May before I can drive up there again…

Recommended channels to use are 1, 6 11 or 13 if in the EU region.

Yes, I know. This recommendation is to avoid channel overlapping. At home I use channel 1 for my router and 6 for my access point on 2.4 GHz. But at this remote location there is no traffic on any of the channels, so it doesn’t matter which channel I use.

The SSID transmission from DCS-935 seems to follow the channel which it connects to the router on. I hope there will be an update to the firmware soon. This SSID is used initially to connect to and set up the camera, and should later be switched off. From what I read in another thread, this problem was introduced with the latest firmware.

When there is a firmware update, I can test it to see if it solves this problem.

Even in good conditions, channels 1, 6 11 or 13 is recommended, other channels are sub channels used by wireless. If the camera is broadcast at the remote location with the remote location main host router, then the channels on the main host router there should be changed.

The equipment is in the mountains, miles from any microwave noise sources (no microwave ovens, no cordless phones, no other WiFi routers, etc.) Any 2,4GHz channel can be used here.

When I first tested the camera at home, I connected my PC directly to it via its SSID (DCS-935L-553B). After it was set up and connected to my router on channel 1, I noticed the camera continued to broadcast the SSID, also on channel 1. It seems the camera broadcasts its SSID on the same channel as it connects to on the router.

D-Link support has acknowledged that there is a problem in the firmware, see thread “Problem with 1.08 and 1.09 firmwares – Noise and SSID camera’s”, reply #35.

I will test the new version of the firmware when it is released and I get an opportunity. There is no guarantee that the SSID broadcast is causing the disconnect error, but it is a start.
