COVR-1870 - Standalone extenders

Having an issue when switching to extender mode on my 3 COVR-1870's. No longer want the router function so I flipped them to extender with the existing network set at Ethernet. 1st node works fine. When I start configuring the other 2 weird things happen. Despite the AP's being factory reset they lose their new config and even revet to basic router connected extender. Do they talk with each other and break stuff if they are on the same ethernet segment? I just want to use them as Access points. 2 of the 3 devices have now reverted to the basic menu with Check for new firmware, Upgrade manually, and system.
