DIR-890L Internet Reconnexion and Schedule error
« on: June 17, 2016, 04:57:06 PM »

I used a DIR-890L for many month and almost everything works well.  I have one minor issue and one more important configuration problem.

My minor issue is that when I lost power or just reboot my router, it does'nt reconnect my internet automatically.  I see a REPAIR red box between Internet and DL-890L. To fix it I just have to MANUALLY go to Settings/Internet, reselect ROUTER MODE, Save and wait few sec.   It there a way that the reconnexion is automatic when power is back?  My internet service is Videotron on a DynIP (DHCP) mode.

My more important issue is that I'm unable to schedule kid timeframe on my kids devices.  I know how to reserve an IP adress and activate parental control.... when I setup a schedule like 9 to 21 every day those devices, tablet internet still works well?  Is it a known bug... if yes I'll wait for next firmware.  If not can you help me???

Simple kid schedule... but it work 24h a day even if the icon on the devive look like different:
Mon : 20:00 - 21:00
Tue : 20:00 - 21:00
Wed : 20:00 - 21:00
Thu : 20:00 - 21:00
Fri : 16:00 - 17:00, 20:00 - 21:00
Sat : 9:00 - 21:00
Sun : 9:00 - 21:00

Router and internet modem...
H/W Ver.: A1  F/W Ver.:1.0
Bought and used in Canada (Montreal)
Current Firmware Version:   1.09, Fri 29 Jan 2016
Current Firmware Date:   2016-01-29 15:49:00
Internet: Cable w/ Videotron
Internet Modem: Arris TM602G/115
Except assigning a SSID and a password then assigning IP adresses for every devices, everything is out of the box (I resetted everything many times)!

Thanks for your help!

Link>Welcome!

  • If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. Call the ISP and ask to see if the ISP modem can be bridged. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on a Router
  • If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only under Setup/IPv6.
  • WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed

Is DNS Relay enabled when you have parental controls enabled and setup?

For the first part, I'm pretty sure the "modem" is not a router.  I sent your question to my provider.

For the schedule, yes by default DNS Relay is enabled.  I did'nt changed anything on basic configuration other than assigning a prefered IP to my kids and create a schadule.

Are you getting a private 192.168.#.# or maybe a 10.10 something address on the 890L or a ##.##.###.### public IP address?

I get a 192.168.0.1xx and the router is 192.168.0.1.

I asked my provider to change my modem.  They installed me exactly the same model and now, when I router reboot he found the internet connexion.

I did'nt do more tests yet for the schedule problem... but I'll!

If the 890L is getting a private IP address, 192.168.0.### then this could be causing problem. It's preferred to get a public IP address, ##.##.###.### from the ISP modem/service.
