Connection help
« on: December 06, 2021, 08:03:56 AM »

I use my DNS-323 mainly for the backup of my PC.  (W10 )
No changes to connection (via ethernet  hub)

Typical that when I go to connect, it does not connect by clicking on the drive .... I then insert CD and run 'Easy Connect' utility, it then remaps the Drives and all fine.
Today though, Easy Connect found the DNS-323 - co issues with that... but when I select it and then try to connect to either volume ....assigning available drive letter, I get "Failed to Map Drive"

Does anybody any tips suggestions on how to recover ?

I have tried rebooting ... same thing, power on, is discovered, LAN settings populated, but when I try to Carry Out Drive Mapping get the same error.
Connection is set for DHCP and Auto link speed.

Anybody able to help on this ?

I did some Googling and one common thread was to enable SMB 1.0   ... this was off, now enabled, but still unable to MAP drive

How are you trying to map drive in Windows. Should be //volume_# <# being the number of the drive your trying to access. //volume_1 or 2 should work.

I was using the D-Link supplied 'Easy Search Facility'   as per CD-ROM provided with the DNS-323
It no longer works on W10 ......

Since asking the question  ... I found a 2-fold approach required, due to W10 now disabling SMB1.0 protocol support.

Go to    Windows+R    Optionalfeatures
Enable SMB1.0
Restart PC

From Command screen manually map drive
Net use Y: \\MachineName\ShareName

in my case syntax was   >Y:\\DLINK-EAB58D\Volume_1

Did this for each volume this then worked.
After use, I disabled SMB1.0  due to Microsoft advice on security vulnerability.

Ya the software is no longer compatible. Just use the DNS web page to access it's in formation. Though you may need to keep IE11 or a old version of FireFox browser around. Some newer versions of browser may not work on the DNS web page as time goes on.
