E-MAIL LOGS NOT WORKING
« on: February 08, 2011, 09:23:27 AM »

Has anyone gotten the DIR-655 to e-mail logs?  I have all the e-mail settings set properly, but when I request the logs to be e-mailed, I never get anything.  Its not in a spam folder either.
I do have the DIR-655 behind a 2wire router/DSL modem.  I don't know if this is the problem, but I can send and receive e-mails from my computer which is connected to the DIR-655, so I don't think that is the problem.

Any suggestions??

Can you try putting the 2wire router modem in to bridged mode and see if the logs get thru? Could be a Dual NAT issue having 2 routers on line. You could also see if you could put the 655 router in to the 2wires DMZ too. I would also set up static IP reservations if you can do this as well.

I did put my 2Wire modem/router in bridged mode, and I still can't get e-mails from the D-LINK DIR-655.  The log file from the DIR-655 says that it sent the e-mail, but I don't get it in outlook2007 nor do I see it when I check e-mail on the web.  It also isn't in my spam filter.
Any other ideas???

Would upgrading to the newest firmware (2.01NA) help.  I just purchased the router and it has 2.00NA.  It says that the new firmware added 'ALG' and 'supports 'IPv6 Spec 1.12R'

If your router is working over all besides getting log emails, I would keep the router where it's at. Unless you really need the logs sent out for some reason. Can you review them on the device locally? One thing I notice is that if the logs don't fill up, they won't be sent out.

I think Furry, as usual, is right on the money.  I have observed on my A series 655, that if your router is set-up correctly, and if you don't have (INFO) entries checked, virtually nothing will be on your log and therefore nothing will be mailed.

As a diagnostic tool, check all the log alert types, including INFO, put in your e-mail information properly, choose a schedule and see what happens. Make sure you "save" your settings into non-volitile memory.  That will be confirmed on your log as your first INFO alert.

Eventually you will tire of INFO alerts and uncheck it.  At that point you can continue a schedule of empty, or nearly empty logs, or just assign it to be sent when full, which could be never, if you have excluded INFO alerts.

I wouldn't mind just checking the logs periodically, but what I really want to see are the web access logs.  I don't know how I can see the web access logs any other way.
