Title: cant configure router after firmware update!
Post by: nizans0 on May 16, 2013, 03:09:20 AM
yesterday I updated my dir-655 firmware to 1.36WW after the update I the router has been restored to factory settings and every time I try to change any setting it gives me: "ap should not be locked before configuring". I cant change set any configuration, cant change even the router time!
I logged in to the router as admin and left the password blank.

Please HELP!

Please follow this and attempt a 2nd FW load of the same code version:

Also ran into this exact same problem on the 1.36EU firmware.  Downgraded again, and it resumed working.  Upgraded again, and it broke again.  I also tried several factory resets on the the new firmware to no avail.  I got the strong impression there's something seriously wrong with the new firmware from a factory fresh point.  (The one thing I haven't tried is to save my previous config and restoring that after loading the new firmware.)

Even following the FW update process sticky?

Even following the FW update process sticky?

Yes. I have tried several times and paid close attention to the guide in the sticky after a few failures. All fine with 1.21 - 1.35NA and 1.35EU. But if I update to 1.36NA/EU, I get this "AP should not be locked before configuring." -error on almost every change and none of them are saved.

At first I was even unable to downgrade the thing, but something has changed for better and now I can fortunately get rid of that buggy 1.36 firmware. I'm staying at 1.35 and hope that a factory reset fixes my dropping wlan.

See this image for reference (scrolls right).

I had this same problem and want you to know it can be overcome.

I did a 30/30/30 hard re-set, reinstalled the update, did a 30/30/30 hard re-set and then it appeared to work.

I'm sure the sticky guidance is better, but give that a shot if nothing else is working for you.

Also having things running the back ground on the test PC can also effect how the FW is applied, things like 3rd party security programs can effect this. Also browsers can as well. Why we only recommend IE or FF for FW updates.

Good Luck.

Had no security software running, just a fresh windows installation. Did it without internet connection too, didn't help.

Tried with FF, IE (Both compatibility mode and normal) and chrome. No difference.

Anyway, I'm off D-Link now, just purchased a MikroTik RB2011UAS, couldn't be happier with it!
