Furry you online? Need some help
« on: December 04, 2013, 05:55:37 PM »

I've been getting really crappy wireless signal for a while now. I use both the 2.4 and 5 signals and can't connect using the 2.4 in my living room, router less than 50' away in bedroom. Wired speeds are still good at 50-58down/10-11.5up.

If you still have xbox 360 i should be on in a little bit.

What modes are you using on the 857? Single mode N?

Is HT20/40Mhz Co-existence enabled?

  • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?

What FW version is currently loaded?

Here is my wireless Shaperprobe test results. My upstream is correct but the download side is horrible!

Connected to server 64.9.225.179.

Estimating capacity:
Upstream: 11783 Kbps.
Downstream: 5447 Kbps.

The measurement will last for about 2.5 minutes. Please wait.

Checking for traffic shapers:

Upstream: No shaper detected.
Median received rate: 11536 Kbps.

Downstream: Burst size: 2671-2806 KB; Shaping rate: 280 Kbps.

Is this a wired or wireless test result? Meaning ciient PC is connected how to the router? Wired or wireless?
If wireless, results may not be accurate. Wired testing is preferred for doing any speed testing.

Ok, at least the wired is good. Wireless, should be close however anything could effect good results over wireless. I don't recommend any speed testing on wireless. Just ensure that the wired connection is good.

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?
  • 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
  • What wireless devices do you have connected?
  • Any cordless house phones?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
  • If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Also you might consider doing this mod:

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion
Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.  I have a name for my channels

What wireless modes are you using? I'm using both G and N on 2.4 and only G on 5

2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz? Ok

Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only. Ok

Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. I'm on channel 11 on 2.4 and channel 36 on 5

What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.

What wireless devices do you have connected? 2 Phones, 1 IPad, 1 Laptop, 1 Android tablet, 1 Ipod touch but not all are on at the same time,

Any cordless house phones? No home phones, only cell phones.

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Yes, I will find out how many

If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
