Title: DCS-935L, Video stream from your device was lost
Post by: PeterM on May 11, 2016, 05:07:33 AM
Hi,

I have similar problem as reported by another user:

http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=64037.msg263368#msg263368

DCS-935L goes to state where video stream cannot be seen from the device anymore.

- happens randomly, typically 5-10 hours after camera has been started
- camera is online and myDlink Lite Android application shows Blue cloud symbol. But no video stream: Only "Video stream from your device was lost" error message
- I can access camera setup page locally via WLAN normally, but video stream is not working (Live video)
- www.mydlink.com shows that camera is online, but no video stream
- when video stream is tried to activate, leds in the camera start to blink. So connection to camera is OK but video stream does not start
- when camera is restarted, video stream starts to work again

Hardware Version: A1
Firmware version : 1.08.6
Tried with two separate WLAN routers => not related to router
Tried with 2 different ISPs => not related to internet provider
Tried with 2 different mobile clients (different service providers)
Camera is resetted to factory defaults several times
Tried enabling/disabling uPnP, static/dynamic IPs etc

Once I saw that camera rebooted (red led started to blink) when video stream was tried to activate. After this video stream was not possible anymore. It seemed that camera crashed and rebooted automatically, but maybe camera SW does not recover fully from this situation?

For me it seems that camera is defective? Any ideas, I have alrady used too much time with these issues..

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router?
How many other wireless devices do you have connected to the main host router?

I recommend setting a static IP address ON the cameras outside of the main host routers default DHCP IP address pool as a troubleshooting step: 192.168.#.35 or .93 DHCP (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=58017.0)

Test cameras with uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding both enabled on ALL cameras: DCS Cloud (L) Series Camera Configuration and Mydlink.com (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=62395.0)

You might try doing a factory reset, manual re-load FW, factory reset then set up from scratch...

What region are you located?
- Finland

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
Tried with two routers, no impact
  a) Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH
  b) Asus 4G 4G-AC55U

What wireless modes are you using?
- Tried both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz

What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router?
- 5 meters, camera shows 100% Signal in "Wireless setup"

How many other wireless devices do you have connected to the main host router?
- One

Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
- No

Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner to find out. How many?
- None at used channel 11

I recommend setting a static IP address ON the cameras outside of the main host routers default DHCP IP address pool as a troubleshooting step: 192.168.#.35 or .93 DHCP
- I have tried this

Test cameras with uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding both enabled on ALL cameras: DCS Cloud (L) Series Camera Configuration and Mydlink.com
- I have tried this

This does not seem to be IP related issue as IP connection to camera is alive all the time. Only video stream dies.

You might try doing a factory reset, manual re-load FW, factory reset then set up from scratch...
- I could try manual re-load FW, how to do this?

I would wire connect the camera to the main host router.
Find the IP address it gets from the main host router.
Log into the cameras UI using the IP address the camera gets from the main host router.
Use the UI to upload the FW file.
After the FW is loaded and processed. Factory reset then setup from scratch.
Use IE or FF to do this.

If this issue happens again, I would contact your regional D-Link support office and ask them about Mydlink services and any problems they maybe seeing as well.

Does this happen on the LAN side or WAN side or both when viewing with the MDL lite app?

DCS-935L is Wifi only, I will try FW reinstall from web UI.

"Does this happen on the LAN side or WAN side or both when viewing with the MDL lite app?"
- Happens
a) On WAN with MDL lite (Video stream from your device was lost)
b) On LAN with web UI/browser: Settings (using IP address) can be accessed on LAN, but video stream ("Live video" in web UI) stays black

Haven't tried with MDL lite on LAN, I will try that also if still happens after FW upgrade

Let us know, if it happens again, I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Hi, I have the same problems with two or three of my four DCS-935L cameras.
One DCS-935L camera is connected alone to a computer running D-ViewCam.
Three cameras is connected to a DNR-312L with a 1Tb disk.

The camera connected to D-ViewCam has worked fine for over a year but has now got into a very slow state, reboots don’t solves the problem. Sometimes the camera is completely inaccessible and a power recycle is necessary to get it running again, but it starts up still in a very slow state.

I had two DCS-935L and one DCS-930L cameras connected to the DNR-312L and it work fine for over a year (after a lot of problems with a couple of replaced cameras). Now I have added one DCS-935L and got tons of problems with several of the DCS-935L, no problems at all with the DCS-930L.
Problems list:
*Video streams stream very intermittent, up to several seconds breaks in the video stream.
*Video streams stops after minutes to hours.
* Very slow response in the web interface
I have tested allmost all different configurations I can think of. I have separated cameras to different WiFi-segments on different Dlink routers, both 2,5GHz and 5gHz.
Could it be temperature, its summer now?
Could it be software bugs? Sometimes I have the feeling some data buffers in the camera fills up and will not be released, not even after a reboot or a factory reset.

Update 2016-06-22
Now I have managed to get video streams from all cameras. I had first to set set audio off (lowered the bitrate), then lower the bitrate in the video configuration and last test different wifi router settings and placements. It seems that the camera needs a good wifi connection and video stream reciever with good capacity not interrupting the stream.

Update 2016-07-14
One of the cameras streams stops after a few minutes up to a couple of hours. After an other few hours I can't log in to the camera and reboot it, have to power off/on. After a power restart it seems as the bit rate ar much higher than after a soft reboot!!!
I'm going nut on this....

I have a brand new 935L and I get the same problem.  Tried with 1.08 and 1.09 firmwares.  Same result.  I contacted support, but all they suggest is to upgrade the firmware.

It has a static IP address.  It is not a network issue.  The camera is accessible at all times via the LAN and remotely.  All settings are available to be changed.  Only the video stream is lost and will not return until the device is rebooted.

I have other models of dlink cameras and have had for many years.  They all work fine.  There is something wrong with either the hardware or firmware of this model.  This is replacing a 930L which died.  Same location, same settings other than a new IP.  The 930L always worked.

What are you doing when the video is lost? Where are you seeing this message? Local network or remotely from a PC or the mydlink lite app?
How many cameras do you have connected?
Please give feedback to the questions presented so we can get a better idea of your situation and can give you better help.

I have two other cameras connected.  One is wired and the other is wireless and connected to a different wireless router.  I've tested with different routers and different settings.  The results are the same.  The problem is on the camera end.

I can access the device and its settings in any of the possible ways.  Browser on LAN, Dviewcam, mydlink, phone app.  They all work and the settings are viewable and changeable.  The video disappears after a random period of time and does not return.  A reboot fixes the problem.

I see that this is a common and known firmware issue.  http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=62708.45  Maybe I will try some earlier firmware.  If there is not a reliable solution, I will just return the camera.  Any suggestions for a reliable model?  No point in an unreliable security camera.

There is no message.  The app or browser or mydlink connects to the camera.  You just get a blank video view with no errors.

Is the suggestion of uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding enabled on ALL cameras?

Possible the camera maybe faulty.

I have left the UPnP settings at the default, which is UPnP Enabled on and UPnP Port Forward off.  I could play around with this, but would that only affect remote device access or streaming from outside of the LAN?  The problem remains when connecting locally within the LAN.

For what it is worth, I downgraded to 1.07 and it have been working for an hour.  I'll leave it like that until it fails again and try farting with port forwarding.

See how it works out.

uPnP Port Fowarding should be enabled if you have more than one camera online at the same time.

Keep us posted.

Are the cameras hot when video is lost?

As a test,  back all cameras down to 480p. Or go to 720p/5 fps. .. does the same issue remain?

You are using at least cat4 ethernet wires?  At least something that can do 100 Mbps.

Camera is not hot.  Running at 480p.  These cameras do not have a cable connection.  They are WIFI only.

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
How many cameras do you have online all at the same time?
How many other wireless devices besides cameras do you have connected to the main host router?

Would be interesting to see if the 935L works for a period of time on newer FW code if it's the only camera online and connected...

The main router is an ASUS RT-AC66U.  The camera is currently connected to a Linksys E2000 which is only acting as a switch.  I trialled connecting to the ASUS and the result was the same.

There are two other cameras.

Lots of devices are connected.  I'm not about to shutdown the whole network because Dlink can't make reliable firmware.  The piece of junk should just work and be 100% reliable.  I've had 3 dlink camera on the network for many years without issue.  I'm not wanting to be the beta tester for their firmware.  If it can't happily get along with the rest of the devices, it is coded improperly.

You'll need to keep the version of FW that's working for you if it seems to fix this issue or return the unit. So far your the only one reporting this issue with current FW versions. I'll pass this on to D-Link for review.

Good Luck.

Well it seems to have died.  I guess I will try the port forwarding as a last ditch effort.  dlink email support gave up after telling me to "update the firmware".

I recommend phone support. Experience seems to have better results with phone support.

Id do a factory reset, manually load the FW again, factory reset and set up from scratch. If this doesn't seem to help, then the unit may just be bad.

Can you test the power adapter output voltage so it matches what is printed on the sticker?

So you have logged into the cameras f/w web page?

Does that video stream also die?  Are you using h264 for profile 1?

I have done a factory reset and firmware upload.  The results were the same.

It uses a mini USB power supply.  I could check it, but seeing as everything else continues to work properly other than the video stream, I would doubt it.

I find it ridiculous that I would need to waste time on phone support.  Dlink must be able to access the camera directly and troubleshoot themselves...  At least respond with an email saying they do not know.

Yes, you can log into the cameras directly on the LAN or through the mydlink page remotely and change any settings while the video is dead.

This camera does not have video profile choices.  You can see the manual here: http://d2okd4tdjucp2n.cloudfront.net/DCS-935L/DCS-935L_A1_Manual_v1.01(WW).pdf  It is different than other dlink cameras I've used in that you can't force it to stream in one type of video.  As far as I can tell, it must stream  H.264 and MJPEG at the same time.  Quite a strange setup.

We find that phone support is best for more information and help. Also you can talk to them about remote access at that point as well. They wont do any remote access via email support. I found that email support is fairly generic support and something like this need level 2 or higher support.
