Title: DSP-W110 MyDlink Home Problem
Post by: Trek4Ward on January 15, 2016, 06:36:59 AM
I've had a DSP-W110 for awhile now and it was working fine until one day the MyDlink Home app performed an update on the device.  Now it just shows "offline".  I tried to reset it, remove it, reinstall it, and it finds it fine, but then shows it offline.  Since this smartplug controls my home automation remotely, I decided to buy a DSP-W215 to repace it.  Did the install, everything went fine until it did an upgrade following the install.  Same issue.  It's there, but it shows offline.  I have a Dlink DIR-820L router with the most current firmware, UPnP enabled, and still no dice.  Funny thing is the router sees the devices fine.  They are active in my connected device list, but the app doesn't see them.  Any ideas??

I should add that I have a DIR-860L router at home and the smartplug showed up on my app there.  What could be different on these 2 routers?

The DIR-820L is running firmware v1.06.  I just updated it today.  Not sure about the DIR-860L as I am not at home right now.  I am at the house with the DIR-820L and the smartplugs.  I have Hughesnet ISP.  Like I said the smartplugs worked and were viewable up until the most recent firmware upgrades, so something you guys recently changed is causing this issue.

I think this needs to be reviewed by D-link support. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

They did what they could today and ultimately deemed the devices bad for return.  I don't think they're bad at all.  This is a setting most likely on my router that is preventing the status to be properly displayed.  My Dlink cams work fine in the app though.  Very puzzling.

Have you swapped routers and tested again? You mentioned that the 860L was working with the DSPs?

That router is at a different house.  I do have an older Linksys here that I plan to try tomorrow.  Just frustrating that it worked before the firmware upgrade on the devices.  Not sure if you are a Dlink employee, but it's something that needs looking into.  Something's up with the compatibility between those devices and the DIR-820L.

Ok so even though the 860L is at a different location, does it work?

Please give the Linksys router a test if you have time and let us know what you find out.

Also can you access the devices from with in the home on the LAN side with the mobile app or browser?

I have noticed that I can't access my camera from my work PC using IE or FF however I can access it from my mobile app currently.

Thank you.

Yes, the tech on the phone call actually had me browse to the IP address of one of the smartplugs.  I was able to view a text file of the device, but nothing more.  What it told me was the device is connecting to the router fine.  My problem is the interface to the app.  The app actually installs the device perfectly, but then displays it as "offline".

And is the mobile device connected to the local wireless LAN side?

Was the app removed then reinstalled?

Just checking other avenues.

The Linksys router test will be good and hopefully reveal either the same issue or they work. I'm hoping they work.

Yes, we removed both devices several times, removed the app, tried the app on both Iphone and Android and same results.  The plugs install fine, are pingable through the router, yet are "offline" in the app.

And yes, both phones we tried were connected to the same router as the devices.  They are all in the same room (when I'm at this house).  Have to get to the bottom of this over this weekend as my SmartThings tends to lock up now and then and I need a means to reboot it, that's why I bought these.  Sucks!

So an initial test tonight - Connected to my Linksys router and same issue, however this is a secondary router behind my primary router (more of an extender), so in essence it's still routing through my primary Dlink to get to the internet.  Tomorrow I'll replace my primary with the Lynksys and I also have a Dlink DIR-810L that I can try, but I've never used it as the reviews were horrible.

So after further troubleshooting I have come to the conclusion that the satellite ISP must be the culprit.  I tried replacing my primary router with a Dlink DIR-810L with default settings - same result.  I then moved to my Linksys WRT-54 router - same result.  I wasn't sure whether the My Dlink Home app was communicating directly with the devices through my router or not, so I purposely removed the ISP from my router and found that I could no longer log into the app (no 3G or 4G where my vacation house is).  So, that leads me to believe this is an issue with the Satellite ISP.  Bad news is this worked fine prior to the last forced firmware upgrade so I have to wonder what they changed that is causing this?  Both smartplugs are boat anchors to me at this point.

Any chance you can test the DSPs at a different location that has DSL or cable ISP as a quick test to see if the DSPs respond there?

Yes, I'll take them home next week and try them on my Comcast network.  I've done this once before with the DSP-W110, and it worked fine.  I'll do it again just to prove a point I guess.

Ok, didn't know you tested them at home, if they work at your CC network location, then we can deem them working and presume there maybe an issue at this remote location with a SAT ISP service.

It's official.  Brought the DSP-W215 home and it worked perfectly on my Comcast ISP.

I presume if your using a SAT ISP system that since there is always an inherent LAG from the SAT to the ground station that this could be an issue contributing to the connection status and operation of the DSPs.

I wish I could say that's the issue, but these devices worked fine prior to the last firmware upgrade.  I'm on the phone with tech support again.  I seriously doubt that these devices will be of any use to me at that location ever again, but my hope is that a savvy developer will get the trouble ticket, look at the new code and figure out what change may be causing this issue.  I'm not holding my breath though.  Meanwhile, I'm shopping for another manufacturer to replace the Dlink with as I desperately need this device to recycle the power on my home automation hub from time to time.

I'll pass this along to D-Link for review as well.

Maybe a simple digital timer would be a alternative solution for now.

Thanks for your ear during my troubleshooting.  I really liked the Dlink and don't want to have to buy another brand, load another app, yada, yada.  I told the Dlink support that.  I'm not looking to get a refund, RMA, or anything else.  Just have the developers look into it to see if they added some enhancement that could be causing the issue.  If you have a channel to those folks, I'd love to hear what they have to say!

I'm guessing nothing ever became of this.  I have it at my primary home now and it works fine, but I don't really need it there.  I guess I'll have to invest in an Edimax instead.

If the DSP works at your current location and does not at your remote location, I would presume there is a problem at the remote location and probably with this ISP service. Not sure what can be done from this point. You would have to ask D-link for help and review this information and see if there could be any help they could come up with. I an only surmise that your ISP at the remote location is part of this.

But if you recall, this device worked fine until the last upgrade.  When I bought the 2nd one to replace the one I had initial problems with, it installed perfectly and was working....then it did an auto-upgrade and it too is no longer functional.  Something in that last upgrade is causing problems with my ISP.   This can't be rocket science to figure out, but it'll take someone that can see the code to identify it.

This will need to be looked at by D-Link support and I would phone contact them and ask for level 2 or higher support. Reference this thread so they can review it.

Has a factory reset been performed then set up from scratch?
What region are you located?
What Mfr and model is your main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?

Has this issue been resolved?  I just installed two DSP-W110 switches a few days ago.  Both immediately requested firmware upgrade to latest version and I proceeded.  I've temporarily unplugged one of them but not due to any problems.  Today I successfully used one from a remote location over the internet to power cycle a DCS-2330L camera that often disconnects.  My modem at that locations is a DSL connection with 1Mb/s up and 6Mb/s down.  Not a speedy link but the power cycle was successful and the camera came back online.

My unit will not synch with my network after a firmware update that I just received. It worked up until two days ago when I noticed on my router settings that it wasn't connected. I went into the app and sure enough a message that an update was available. I hit on it and now the plug won't synch with my network. I have tried all the regular stuff, complete reset, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, manual setup, WEP setup and nothing works. I have requested to return the plug but they want me to call and talk to someone first. I have spent literally hours trying to get this plug to connect and nothing. Funny thing too I cannot get it to power on very easily. That is the first thing you are suppose to do after plugging it in and the side button flashes orange or green but when you push the power button and nothing. It eventually turns on but not right away. Something is really screwy with this plug. If I can't get it replaced with a new one, I guess I will go back to the tried and true plug in with the push down sections on it. It NEVER let me down. This is a HUGE disappointment after only having it for 4 months!!!

I still couldn't get it to connect so I called D-Link. I spoke with two techs and we spent a really long time on the phone. They agreed that something must be wrong with the plug so I was packing it up to send back. I decided to try one more time. I did a hard reset on it once again, followed the instructions again, pushed the side button, the power button and the plug was suddenly connected to my router and showed up in my plugs on the app. I could never get this far in the install procedure.  I have no idea why it finally decided to work again but I scheduled its off and on times and it is working. A pure mystery.

Please give us more feed back and please answer the questions presented so we can get a better idea of your situation next time.

Seems like the factory reset and set up from scratch has resolved this.

Enjoy.
