Well looks like a different cable plugged into the WAN port didn't help. This time it disconnected without using the playstation. Same error message in the log.

Hey Cobra where do i check the lease time setting? Or i'm thinking when I try to do to much on the network it just reboots. I know i was moving about 8gigs from my laptop to my server, BUT the laptop and server are connected Via a dlink gig switch so idk.

After I posted this the same thing happened again and I wasn't moving anything. HMM I wonder what other settings I can try and tweak.

I just unplugged it for 15 seconds and plugged it back in, i'll see how long it takes to disconnect again.

Um, you have that router going into something else? My question to you is why are there two dhcp servers running on your network? looks like your WAN is being deauthenticated for some reason.

I think your server configuration is wrong. You wan is trying to auth with your server which it obtains an ip address as seen in the log. 192.168.100.2, but it looks like, from your logs, that you have not configured a DNS server or a DNS forwarder. The other discrepancy that I see here, that i'm getting from the logs is that it is quickly loosing that ip address, which I believe could only mean that the IP address is already in use. I see this because 1: it quickly looses it's lease and 2, the log shows it dropped a packet from 192.168.100.2. Meaning that the router is dropping it's own packet to itself, which is not possible and illogical. Once that local IP lease has been lost, it is authenticating with your ISP, the way it should be.

I'm not sure why there would be two running. I only have the Router plugged into the modem and then a Gig switch plugged into the router. I was wondering what the DHCP IP 192.168.1.100 was coming from.

see my above post that I edited. From the logs, It would appear to me that you have the  dir plugged into the switch via it's uplink port and your server plugged into the switch

your network typology  looks like this?

Yes The server and the PC'S are all on the switch. I'm using the DGS 2205 switch and there is no uplink port. The use of MDI/MDI-X crossover on all ports eliminate the need for crossover cables or uplink ports.

I currently have the server using a static IP address. I have port forwarding to that server on 3 ports. I guess i can try and unplug the server from the switch reboot the router and see how that goes.

Ok. If that's the setup and you have no bridging being done on the dir-655's wan and lan1 port. Then there may be the possibility that the modem is assigning that IP address of 192.168.100.2.

What is the make and model of the modem?

I have a siemens gigaset567 for my ppoe modem, and it's actually a gateway, so it's a modem/router/AP in one and it is garbage. So I have my dir-825 (sorry dont use the 655 anymore) connected to the gigaset and the dir is set to dial the ppoe connection. What used to happen for a while is that it would get kicked off the network because ISP detected two instances of the connection. It seems that that gigaset always wanted to use the ppoe connection and started dialing out. So finally I disabled the sucker.

So I am guessing though that you dont use ppoe and that your on cable. What is odd however, is that it first obtains a 100.2 ip address, gets booted, then obtains a public IP address. if it were to get that private IP address your modem would have to have a DHCP server installed. Then the question arises, why is it being booted and then gets an external IP address? Almost seems like bridging on the modem if there is any is being finicky.

That's why I ask what the make/model of the modem is so I can better understand the hardware.

and can you look through your logs or even "internet traffic" and see if you see any requests (whether they be denied or allowed) coming from 192.168.100.1 ? and go to your routing table in the dir (it doesn't have much of a useful table but hey) and see if there are any instances of 192.168.100.0 and/or 100.1

as well, see if in the dir internet setup, if you can clone your computers MAC address. i'm not sure if you had originally had only your computer hooked up to the modem, or what was hooked up to the modem before you got the dir655. So it's probably moot if you did that.

The model is a Motorola Surfboard 5120 Cable Modem. I didn't find anything in the routing table for 100.0 /100.1. Before i Bought this router I had a Linksys WRT54GL hooked up to the modem. I'm still kind of baffled as to what could be the problem.

Thanks for the help!

Well tonight i decided to upgrade to the newest beta firmware. I did a reset on the router and entered all the settings back in and i still get the same error message.

hey brichter45 as I suspected, the cause is coming from the modem.

see this thread here on dlsreports http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,15351516

It describes the problem similar to yours, and someone posted a way to turn off the DHCP server in the modem but it requires a little trickery. BTW if you have comcast? I'm pretty sure those models are obsolete now/EOL, you may be able to talk your way into getting a newer replacment modem.

The 5120 is one of the best modems right now for Comcast unless you want to step up to the 6120 which is DOCSIS 3.

Thanks Lotacus, I went ahead and looked at my Modem log and see a ton of these little errors
TSM: TxError WatchDog - Restart Upstream
HAL: Overcoming Tx Error (reseting the US - DMA)

I'm going to see about getting a new modem or talking to the people on the dslreports forum.

I noticed that it probably has something to do with uTorrent running on my WHS as well. I'll see. Thanks Again!

Do you have an amplifier or some kind of booster on your line?

What do your signal levels look like on the modem page?
