ok i could do that with my neighbor.   I did turn off wifi for the asus when setting this up for ap.  i have lots of internet cable and i could probably hook it up there and see.. but doesnt that mean the main internet line from my asus has to bee hooked up to the dlink at all times?

edit, such as i mean right now i have this hooked up as main line from first router to the switch in garage and then a cord to the router

I should look something similar to this:

ISP Modem>ASUS Router>LAN port connected to LAN Port on 855. A switch can be used between the Router and 855 as well. While the 855 is in AP mode, it does have to be wired connected at all times to the router for connections.

Understood, i see in the mac addresses this is working as it is, http://i.imgur.com/hJawcaB.png top mac is dlink and 2nd is dlink dwa150 for wireless and http://i.imgur.com/qudFVtg.png shows asus 2.4ghz is supposed to be off and as far as the dwa150 sees it is off.  So I think i have gotten all the support i need for now, and i Thank you very much!  But, could i use this dir-601 as an ap as well or bridge? if i was to take it next door would it have to be hardwired too?

The 601 will also need to be wired as well. I just installed a DIR-601 as an AP here in the living room and currently connected to it right now.

Come back and visit.

Good luck.
