Connecting a asus AC1750 and a Dlink Dir-855 router together
« on: February 01, 2013, 06:54:16 AM »

Is it not possible to connect two routers together and have the other still broadcast a wireless signal? I configured the dir-855 after resetting it to factory.  I disabled dchp, upnp, spi and changed the IP address to 192.168.0.5 and I tried 10.10.10.10 and after I saved the settings I was prompted to reboot. After rebooting the router I could not get back into the configuration page.  I have run a cat5e cable from my attic in a 2 story house to the garage and placed a switch there.  I wanted to further my signal with the Dlink router by setting up the two routers and I have read this is possible yet I can not seem to get this to work. I am placing the cat5e cable from the router port 4 on the asus to router port 1 on the dir-855 not the wan port. Any assistance would be appriciated. Thank you.

Sorry if that was placed in the wrong place.  Are you saying that the dir-855 should be able to be setup as a bridge?  So I know what to look for?

ok so i read it through and through a few times, i have connected it sucessfuly using 192.168.0.50 and i set all the config as you stated.  I can see the wifi name twice on the 2.4ghz even though it is stated the same on both routers.  I cannot connect to anything but the 5ghz one what did i do wrong?

i can connect wirelessly on the laptop on the 5ghz but on the 2.4ghz it says it has limited connectivity.

Make sure the channels are different on each unit. Cant be the same. Use chl 11 on one and 1 for the other for 2.4ghz. Use diff chls for 5ghz aswell.

asus 2.4ghz is channel 1
asus 5ghz is channel 40 wont go lower
dir-855 2.4ghz is channel 11
dir-855 5ghz is channel 36

Can connect to 5ghz but not 2.4ghz.  What else could i be doing wrong?  i have a dir-601 as well and i can do all of this on it and it works but i dont think it has dualband.

I would do this, Turn OFF the WiFi radios on the ASUS while you get the 855 going that way you can see and only test out the radio on the 855. If you have set it per sticky, it should work if you connected the 855 LAN to LAN with the ASUS.

Any status on this?

Cannot find a way to disable wifi on the asus router, was going to try and make time to call support to see how to disable it for the ASUS RT-AC66U is still pretty new on the market and i have found no support for turning off wireless.

Edit: Called asus and they said to do the following and i will as soon as i get home.

log in to router go to wireless settings 6 tabs on top in professional option to enable radio or not radio and set to deny.

I see they didn't include any Advanced Wireless information in the User Manual. Do the Antennas disconnect from the router? You could temp disconnect them and see.

Ya, there should be a way to disable the WiFi radios on that router like D-Link does on theres.

Keep us posted.

Do any devices see the 855 radio? Try 5Ghz as well.

Ensure the radio is enabled and broadcasting. You might factory reset the router and see if you get the default (dlink) SSID from it.
