Recording motion and duration
« on: June 06, 2017, 06:57:23 AM »

I picked up this cam to help us try and catch a rat. (I know gross) for the last two nights I get a notification around 9pm so I open the app to see the motion and see nothing. Then I seem to keep the cam app open and watch live for a bit. Eventually the rat comes out and I watch the "Rat cam" for at least 5-10 min, only to find nothing's been recorded. Last night I left the cam to do what it's supposed to do. I get the notification, open the app and press record. This goes on for at least 3 min then my cam tells me it's saved 3 min which is the max time for recording. Huh? 3 min? Then it's doesn't even record to the 32GB SD card. The rest of the evening the card has nothing written for 6 hours but I have a dozen pushes telling me there was activity in a dark room.

Why does this cam only record 15sec clips but not a whole file so I can review?

Also, why wouldn't this cam record? All settings are correct and I did the recent BETA firmware. Thanks.

Usually when you get a motion detection notification, the event has already happened before you can open the app and connect and view the camera. Is the camera set up in the UI to record to the SD card? Is the SD care seen by the camera?

Yep. I actually had videos on the card several hours before but when I was watching live because of the event it stopped recording for a few hours. When I was watching live I pressed record and let it go and about 3 min later it told me it was the limit but that it saved the video. That was around 11pm. That video is nowhere to be found. Nothing recorded for at least 3 hours until I pulled the card and put it back in. It seemed to reset itself. Now it's recording but I missed the whole evening for some reason. Odd.

Also; why does this only record <3 min per clip?

When you press record from the app, the video is saved on your device, not the SD card in the camera.  The Playback button on the mydlink app only views video from the SD card. You can view the video on your device using a video player.

The max length of video clip recording is based on the camera's memory. This camera is up to 3 mins per clip.

If you want to save/create long video files you will need software such as D-ViewCam (free from D-Link) and an NVR device.

Not sure why the camera didn't record. You said you had to take out the card and reinsert it to get it working? Possibly the card "locked up"? Keep an eye on it if it keeps happening. Maybe reformat it via the camera interface/app and see if it continues.

guys I am having similar issues with the dcs930 version. I have been using the ivideon software to  notify me with streaming video alerts . I could not register it with dlink so that what i am using. I have the camera setup to send me pics when motion is detected.

I though I had motion detection thing fix when I set it to 50 % sensitivity cause at 90 I would get false positive emails all day.
The I move the camera slightly and now I bearly get any alerts I have increase it up to 75 but I was getting false positives. I am at 60 percent now.

It seems you get what you paid for. I got mine on ebay. I like the price but the functionality is not up to par. I can't even join it to dlink cloud service even when its connected to my router.
