My DIR-626L limits my download speed both on wireless and wired
« on: January 26, 2016, 12:51:32 PM »

Hello,
I have just purchased a DIR-626L router. I connected it, configured it and did a speed test:
If I connect the computer directly to my ISP modem I get 200 MB download and 6 mb upload.
If I connect the computer trough the router (by cable), the download is 50-55 mb and the upload 5-6 mb.
This is not even the biggest problem. I listen to online radio and trough the router, the stream stops at each 25-30 minutes or less.
Also, connected trough wireless, the best download is 15 mb.
Please help because I have tried everything and no result. I love the router and it's functions, but these problems really bug me.
PS: I made the last firmware update, reserved my IP's, enable dns relay, disabled qos, but didn't find the firewall settings from other posts.
Thank you, Razvan

My guess is you have a gateway, not a actual modem. What model is it?

And the most important thing is not the download speed, because 60mbps are more than enough for me. The disturbing part is that after 28-29-30 minutes, the radio streaming stops (when connected via cable also, not just wireless).
I checked without the router and it ran for 30 hours straight.
Thank you very much

If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. Call the ISP and ask to see if the ISP modem can be bridged. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

CH7465LG wireless modem combines highspeed Internet access, local connectivity
and the security of computers on the LAN in a home or small office.

It is a gateway. You either need to talk to your ISP about putting it in bridge mode, or put the router in AP mode. See here for more info.

Hello,
Sorry, but I was out this weekend.
I tried doing the router an AP, because I need the wireless part of the ISP modem for the lower level of the house.
I followed the procedure from your link. Now it connects to the modem with both the cables in the ethernet ports, but the download is still limited at 60 MBs.
I am now checking if the streaming still stops after 30 minutes. I will get back to you.
Thank you, Razvan

Hello,
The streaming has not stop for 740 minutes. It seems to be ok. I am still wondering why the 60 mb download limit, but I can live with it. Thank you very much for your help.
Have a nice day.
