I'm still on firmware v1.15.. my DGL-4500 has been working flawlessly (wireless and wired) for months without rebooting, except when the power in the house has been interrupted. Is there any performance benefit for me to flash the firmware to 1.22NA?

I'm hearing that it may be best to leave what is working alone...  but I'm always looking for more/better performance..

I would leave it where it's at. I have 2 4500's, one with v1.22NA and one with v1.15NA and 1.15 seem just a bit more robust than 1.22. IMO, not a big change to warrant a FW update. If it works, don't fix it.  ;D

I previously had two POS Linksys wireless routers.. this DGL-4500 smokes in terms of performance (GB ethernet helps..). I had ideas of running a hard drive "pool" off the USB port on the router directly, but hesitate to mess with the router firmware just for that. Any computer on the network can provide the same thing.. between my work computers (wired), three wireless laptops in the house, and a well used playstation 3 COD2 gaming going on, all accessing the router, this DGL-4500 has been awesome... why wreck a good thing and mess with the firmware!  I'l take your advice!

Sounds good. Ya, I have a wired 24pt GB switch off my 4500, only other thing connected direct to the 4500 is the 2 360s. I have a airport extreme handling B and G devices and the 4500 is doing N mode 5Ghz to my MacBook Pro. I have a dedicated file server that everything can connect to. I'm enjoying it. Only thing I'm gong to do now is install Cat 6 cabling and install Server 2008.

What wireless modes are you using? since you can go back to v1.15, it might be worth trying v1.22NA. I would try some testing 1st. B/G mode only at 2.4Ghz along with setting the speed to 11Mb and test that. See if you get any disconnects or hangs. If so then give 1.22NA a try and see how it goes.

I use all CAT6 in my office....  I get the cables from monoprice.com  good quality and cheap prices.

The biggest difference has also been with the switches I sue in the lab part of the office.  The one I have now is a dlinkdgs-2208, it is ok for most usage but not large file xfers.  It will not handle the speed the dlink DGS-1016D does.  The complaint on the DGS-1016D is the PS fan that is internal, it is at least as loud as my Netgear ReadyNAS+, but boyo' does it let the files fly...
