Title: Question: Parental Control Schedule
Post by: drizztzz on May 11, 2020, 01:55:24 PM
Hi,

I'm setting up the Parental Control schedule for xbox and wii. I've set the schedule so that these don't have access from 1:00 to 6:00 AM and save. I've caught my son staying up late and playing until 3:00 AM! I check the router and the status of the parental control is set to disabled.

I have the router restart every night at 1:00 AM.  IP address is set dynamically given. I'm not very technical.

My firmware is 1.20 and region is Canada

What happens if you set a IP address reservation for the devices ON the router.
Be sure DNS Relay is enabled.
I presume your son doesn't have access to the routers web page correct?
Be sure your son hasn't set a static IP address on the xbox and wii. They should be set to automatic.

Hi,
I read somewhere suggesting to reserve an IP address . So i did this morning and i just checked now it still looks good. I'll check how it goes overnight. But based on your last suggestion, i should turn this back to automatic?

Where do i go to set the DNS Relay (is it under features)? - nevermind, found it under Settings -> Network. Yes it is enabled.

Yes, my son has no access to the routers web page.

No, you need to keep the IP address reservation  ON the router for the xbox for the schedule to work properly. IF the xbox is turned off for a period of time and the router is set to automatic, then the IP address will change, this will break the scheduling and allow the xbox to connect when you don't want it to.

Hi,
This partially worked last night. The xbox's internet access was disabled last night. The parental control of 2 other devices though was reset. These were a mobile phone and a laptop. I set them up the same as the xbox.

I also disabled the reboot last night. So i'll monitor that tonight.

Thank you for your help.
