DNS-323 appears in iTunes, but won't play music
« on: December 24, 2007, 06:12:13 AM »

I bought the DNS-323 two days ago and so far, the DNS-323 is one of the best computer purchases I've made.  Love it.  Works like a champ - except that iTunes will not play the music from it.

I have iTunes version 7.5.0.20.  DNS-323 firmware is 1.03.  I have 9.29 GB of music, the artwork that goes along with the music, and Audible.com book downloads saved onto the DNS-323.

The drive shows up in iTunes with no problem, but it will not stream (play) any song or audio book in iTunes.  If I open up the drive and chose a file to play in Window Media Player the file plays perfectly.

Any know what I've done wrong?  I'm sure it is a very simple fix.  I just don't know what it is.

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

First -- have you done a refresh?  It's under advanced iTunes.

Tips:
- Point the directory to the level of the music -- not root of Volume 1

- I've found that some files hang the unit during refresh
           -remove all non-music files
           -some corrupt music files

The net is you must have a sucessful refresh.

I have done the refresh and do have iTunes pointed to the music directory itself.

I do have non-music files in there though (album art, etc) that I moved from a different computer's iTunes music folder.  I'll remove the non-music files and see what happens.  Thanks.
