Title: Extremely high ping.
Post by: Arugal102 on February 25, 2015, 07:38:00 AM
These couple last 2 days ago, i've been experiencing a really high ping, it's higher than usual.
No, it's not my ISP( i tried pinging my isp)
No, it's not my isp throttling my connection(tested my internet speed)
I used to get 170ish ping(because it's an US server);
Now it's 350ish ms, I have no idea what's going on, yes, I have wired.
and please, the person who is going to reply to this, just don't really say complicated stuff.

I'm extremely sorry, but I really didn't have any clue about what did you say.
Not everybody is as in networking as you.

So if you test with out the router online with the PC you get good pings and when the router is online pings go up?

I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For DSL or Fiber service lines, ensure that the ISP is using good working phone or cable lines to the DSL modem and that the phone lines are filtered correctly. For cable Internet, RG-6 coaxial cable is needed, not RG-59. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. I recommend having the ISP service physically check the lines going from the out side to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.

PC 3rd Party Security Software Configurations

Check your PC for many malware using MalWareBytes to scan...
Close ALL background running applications on test PC.
Turn OFF all wireless devcies while testing.
Disable the WiFi radios on the router while testing with a wired PC.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

I've tried restarting the modem, disconnecting all the devices that are connected to the internet, then I tried to connect my PC to the internet, it somehow worked, I got my ping back(170)
The modem was just pretty much throttling at it's edge, I need to get a new one by the way, anyway thanks for the help and spending your time helping me.
Have a nice day.

Glad you found the problem. I have the 880L as well. Good router.

Enjoy.
