Problem with WIFI (DAP-1360)
« on: January 15, 2016, 12:06:21 PM »

Hi,
i am new to this forum.
I have a quite strange problem with my Dlink DAP-1360 in access point mode which is connected to the host router (ONT) manufactured by Huawei [ model number HG8245H]
i live in Mauritius.

my problem is that when my iphone 6 and my laptop is connected to wifi and only a few meters from the router, it works perfectly but when i walk in my room, the internet connection becomes dead slow to no connection despite having good wifi strength.
i really don't know what to do since i've already reset the access point several times.

Current config:

Wireless Network Settings :
Enable Wireless : Always
Wireless Mode : AP
Wireless Network Name : HUAWEI-H5KD(Also called the SSID)
802.11 Mode : Mixed b,g,n
Wireless Channel : 1 (greyed out)
Enable Auto Channel Scan : enabled
Channel Width : 20 Mhz
Visibility Status : Visible Invisible
WIRELESS SECURITY MODE :
Security Mode :WPA-Personal

WPA mode : auto
Cipher Type : AES

Advanced Wireless settings
Transmit Power : 100%
WMM Enable : enabled (greyed out)
Short GI : disabled
IGMP Snooping : disabled
WLAN Partition :disabled
HT 20/40 Coexistence : Enable Disable

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DAP? Look at the sticker under the DAP.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DAPs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Does the ONT have WiFi or any other WiFi enabled near by the DAP?
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner to find out. How many?

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Ensure that different SSID names are used between each WiFi 2.4/5Ghz radios. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighbouring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?

  • Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz.
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
  • What wireless devices do you have connected?
  • Ensure any devices with WiFi adapter drivers are updated.

IF you have channel 13, please set that on the DAP.

Is the cordless phone is 2.4Ghz or near this frequency?

no i don't have channel 13 as an option on my access point. i think the cordless phone is 2.4 ghz .
i tried your configurations and internet connection is much improved. i think the problem was related to the position of the external antennas.
but still when i am in a room with fair signal strength (2 bars out of 3) the internet speed becomes very slow to non-responsive.

thanking you for your advices.

Glad it's working better.

Be aware that your cordless phone may have issues with interferences as well if it's on the same frequency.  ::)

Enjoy.

one more question,

does this router in access point mode halves the internet connection speed?

No.

This is a wreless AP, not a router.
