how to make the dir-857 and the dir-855 work together
« on: June 06, 2012, 05:33:56 PM »

I already have the dir-855 and hoped the dir-857 would have improved range and stronger 5ghz signal but would love to use the 855 as a router and extend the exsisting networks with the 857.    Btw  i expected the 857 to be mountable-IT IS NOT unlike previous dlink routers the new slim profile routers can't be mounted.

I also have some dlink powerline 500 gear and an older dgl-4500  but have not been able to  double up my dir routers.

How much better/worse is the 855 vs the 857  because looking at them both the 855 with it's screen and external antena's seems like a more hardcore product while the 857 looks more pedestrian.

Any idea's?

You can review Turning a router into an AP. It works.

I'm enjoying my 857 and holds a candle to the 4500 and 855.

Thanks though i wonder if the 4500,855 or 857 are similar in range or are the dir series routers outside of doing real dual band not either / or dual band like the 4500 any better?  I'd use my 857 being the most recent as the router but when i bought the 4500 mounted it then i mounted the 855 and was very disapointed the "flagship" can't be mounted.

Anyway i'd love to know what amplify tech does over and beyond the 855 or if it's largely an 855 chipset wise with an sd slot and 3.0 usb over 2.0 in the slightly older gear.    Both the 4500/855 still look more robust than the 857 which really looks fragile by compairason.

I believe the amplify routers have different chipsets from the older gen routers. Also they have the next gen QoS Engine or GameFuel on DGL series routers. Also the 857 offers up 450Mb WiFi connection speeds.
