Well do you have 3.0 or 3.1? 3.1 came with autoconfig which is trying to override my incoming and outgoing account settings. Its a known issue on the forums. I just hate when programmers dumb down applications to try to appeal to the masses.

Ah, I started with 3.0 and have been slowly updating. I didn't notice that at one point I added a new account and the auto config seem to not work well or It would not config my settings properly. Thus I was able to config ur the new account manually after I got it loaded. I suppose there isn't any other way of avoiding autoconfig or by passing it?

What happens is I type in my email address, it looks at the domain, and searches for their pop and smtp servers from some database. My ISP does have a IMAP server, but its used for buisness clients, so my username doesn't have access. Thunderbird doesn't care though, it sees IMAP and goes..oh..thats better, I am going to force him to use it. And once the account is set for IMAP, there is no way to change it. So you have to delete the account and try to stop the autoconfig before it can complete incoming server detection. That  litterly occurs in my case in about 1/8th of a second, so I can't stop it in time. So what I have to end up doing is entering in a fake email address (and by the 5th and 6th trying, I was coming up with some colorful email addresses) so the autoconfig can't auto detect. What this does though is makes them test the incoming server via that email instead of testing with the username. And since it can't confirm it works, it won't allow you to save the settings. I think my only choice is going to be setting up the account in offline mode. But this is 10x more complicated then just entering in the settings, and something I could never walk someone over the phone with. So, it ends up being that I will never recommend Thunderbird as a email client. Tis sad too, since its a easy out for those that don't know where to DL the Windows Live Mail program.

I know it is possible because I knew a website that did that but I forgot. So I thought to myself who better to ask instead of furrynutz and tricky? Those two are genius and will definitely tell me. (or so I hope) So guys help!. Thank you vrey much, cya

I just updated to 3.1.4 from 3.1.2 and then added an account. I noticed that during the autoconfig, it found my pop and smtp correctly. It kept trying to located more I guess as I saw the progress circles going around however I could select the stop button and it finally stopped. I was able to select the Manual button too. Are you able to stop or select the manual buttons at all?

Well I got it to work. I guess when I was editing the :config to remove the autoconfig, I wasn't closing and restarting Thunderbird. Once I did that, it was easy. I also made spreadsheet with all the different outgoing server/port varibles. Weeee, geek fun.  :D

Autoconfig is still Fail though. They know it too. There taking it out with the next update. Or atleast the option to turn it off. When they do that, they will again regain my Props. Heh

If anyone wants to help me with a project, feel free to try out these settings on your mail client. Specailly if your Outside your ISP. Just copy/paste from what I have done, and edit, along with your ISP if possible.

Hmm, well heres a couple. The thing is, most of the free one's aren't very good. Usually their limited, or their in accurate.

http://www.ipligence.com/geolocation  (Not very good map)

http://visualroute.visualware.com/  (Hit alot of firewalls)

http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/ (3 a day)

Or if your serious about getting a decent app, try

http://www.visualiptrace.com/    (Cost money but powerful)

or

You read google news too? :-)

Really though, with the exception of better penetration through brick, cement, etc, whats the point? On cell phones the bottle neck is already the chip and the browser, and in home networks its the gateway (modem). Just seems like a reason to sell more routers.  Maybe I need to read up more on the standard though, so thanks.

There is no point in making the wireless faster nor the lan faster if your ISP does not even support 1Gbs am I wrong or right?

Ya. I really think that until ISPs open up some on there connections, really anything beyond 1Gb on WiFi and Lan is just really not worth it for the average home user. I wonder if some of these products are aimed more towards business and corporations that need high speed to xfer stuff. I have 1Gb at my house. Don't really need it but the overhead is there if I need it. Still, 100Mb is good for daily home use. Bottle necks, gotta love them.  ::)
