Can connect from Win 10 PCs, can't connect from Nvidia Shield
« on: December 27, 2018, 04:33:06 AM »

Hi, wondering if anyone can help.

My DNS-323 has been doing sterling service on my network/workgroup for many years. I've recently bought an Nvidia Shield TV to act as a media player for files stored on the NAS.

While PCs on the network/workgroup can see the NAS fine - and my old WDTV Live box could too - the Shield isn't able to connect.

It can see the Device, correctly named, on the network but whenever I try to connect to it, I get a "connection failed" message.

The DNS-323 is on firmware 1.08
It has a single SMB user group for "all users" set to access the root directory (Volume_1) with R/W permissions.

Thanks in advance for any help

IF other devices are connected and the Nvidia Sheild isn't, there maybe a problem with the Shield.

I would contact Nvidia to see if there is any help and information on connecting there product to NAS products. Possible that the 323 is old enough and the Shield new enough, there could be some incompatibility issues between these two devices.

You need to check the specifications for your net TV because what you describe could well be that the TV uses an SMB version other v1.0 which is all the NAS understands and is able to supply.  If the TV doesn't have a fallback to v1.0 ability it won't work unless you use something as a format translation unit between the two.
