D-Link WDA-1320 wireless card doesn't work on Slax Linux
« on: May 17, 2010, 04:36:08 PM »

Follow up: http://www.slax.org/forum.php?action=view&parentID=61942

Hi,

I can't boot Slax on my desktop pc with a D-Link WDA-1320 wireless card (atheros chipset).

The boot process hangs up on the following lines:

Triggering udev events: /sbin/udevtrigger --- (hangs on here for 2 - 3 minutes)
Module dependencies up to date (no new kernel modules found)

If I take the wireless pci card out of the pc, Slax will boot normally. It also runs ok from my HP Pavillion laptop.

The desktop has a Asus kv8-mx motherboard with latest Bios release: 0211.
(Disabling the Floppy drive on the BIOS won't make any effect on the boot process)

There are only the basic hardware (cd-rom, hd, ps2 mouse and keyboard) and the wireless card is the only PCI card on it.

I've built a USB flash drive with Slax (latest version 6.1.2) using UNetBootin.

Does someone know how can I use Slax with this d-link wireless card?

Thx

Ideally we need to figure out why udev is hanging, does udev have any logs for us?
Do you get any boot logs?
Anything interesting in your dmesg?
What is the exact device string you see under a lspci?
Does the correct module show loaded under lsmod?

I can't verify any of your questions because the computer does not boot!

How can I get the computer to boot with the card attached and where do I find the boot logs and dmsg?

I thought it hung for 2-3 minutes and then booted by your description.  Does Slax have a non-udev boot.

Re: D-Link WDA-1320 wireless card doesn't work on Slax Linux

This information should be crucial in the Slax forum you were posting to previously.  I can't do much with it here, but I can tell you it is detected as an ath5k device and the correct module appears to be loading on that other machine.  As for the dmesg, there is some good information there, but letting someone familiar with why that kernel is handling it differently than that other machine's is a good idea.
