Which wireless router is considered the newest/best currently?
« on: February 27, 2019, 10:52:19 AM »

I currently own a D-Link AC3200 Ultra Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (DIR-890L/R) 6 antenna version and really have enjoyed it.  I was curious what the newest most current wireless router to replace this one would be?

If the 890 is working for you, no need to change.

The newest models are the DIR-822, 878, and 882. Also the COVR-2202 and COVR-1203 if you are looking for mesh.

I personally still use the 890L which seems very stable for me.

D-Link is releasing 4-5 new models that can be MESH by adding extenders (EXO line). Most models should be due out in the US between the summer and end of the year.

Yes I am happy with it, I was just curious if there was a newer model similar to what I currently have that has further range, faster speed, or any significant upgrades that would help future proof my current home network.

If the 890L is working for you, keep it. You can always add a DAP to help extend range if needed.  ;)

The new routers have a little better processor but honestly I noticed no difference in distance or speed with the newer models in my house. You won't see difference unless you have brand new clients. If you do not update any of the clients/devices on your network, you wont see a difference if that makes sense. The new models do have MU-MIMO support which the 890L never got but if your clients do not support it, it will not matter.  Also the 878 and 882 (maybe will) support 160MHz so if you have wireless devices that are 3x3 or 4x4 (support 80/160MHz), you may see a difference with a newer router.
