Title: D-Link Portal no longer works with Safari 12
Post by: cucumber1949 on October 09, 2018, 07:32:17 PM
Have been running Mac OS 10.12 to remotely view our D-Link cloud cameras. D-Link portal worked fine with Safari v11, but a recent upgrade to Safari v12 results in a failed login, displaying the following: "Unsupported Browser or Operating System Detected!". A link on the page to install a plug-in does not complete with a 'Plugin install failed' message. Downgrading to the previous, working version of Safari is not a practical option on this machine.

Looking for solutions to resume working with Safari v12. Thanks in advance.

Does it work for other browsers, ie IE11 or FF?

Safari 12 jumped on the firefox bandwagon and removed java and other NPAPI plugin support.  ::)

Well it is 2018 and web developers should be using HTML 5. Just saying...

We've been waiting on D-Link for a while now already Sir.  ::)

Users can use FF ESR v52.9 as a fall back. IE11 in Windows for now as well. Hoping that D-Link will make there items compatible for the future.  :o

Understand. That appears to be the case with a few other browsers as well, and looks to be the trend.

I've tried to find FF ESR v52, but no luck so far. The links I have found to download v52 actually bring down the current ESR version which doesn't support the plugin.

In the meantime, is there a method or an application that will directly access the camera's video? My cameras sit behind a D-Link router and are not connected to an NVR. If no other alternatives, the cameras I'm using are pretty much useless at the moment. As always, thanks in advance.

ESR 52 - http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.9.0esr/mac/en-US/ (http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.9.0esr/mac/en-US/)

ESR 52 64-bit - http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.9.0esr/ (http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.9.0esr//)

Make sure you turn off the browser auto-update.

Are you viewing from outside your home or only locally?   If you have a smartphone or ipad, download the mydlink Lite or mydlink app. Sign in with your current mydlink account info and your cameras will show up (no need to reinstall).

You can try the following URLs in a browser:

IPADDRESS = the IP address of your camera (if viewing from inside your local network, or your router's WAN/Internet IP address if viewing from outside.
The port number is set in the camera's web UI. If viewing from outside your network, you will have to create port forwarding rules in your router (open port to the local IP address of the camera).

http://IPADDRESS:PORT_NUMBER/video/mjpg.cgi
rtsp://IPADDRESS:PORT_NUMBER//live1.sdp
rtsp://IPADDRESS:PORT_NUMBER/play1.sdp

GreenBay, thanks for the links to FireFox ESR 52, very helpful and allows me to keep viewing the cams on the Mac. I'll follow up on the direct access soon.

Is there any hope that the mydlink team will be able to update the mydink app to work with Safari 12 any time soon ?

It is always a balancing act with OS security updates and the ability to use the mydlink app.

Thanks in advance if anyone knows.

RK

PS  Dlink may force me to purchase a different manufacturers IP cam for all 6 cam locations if there is no update to work with the latest Safari v.12.

Well,,,,now have FF v. 52 installed and the plugin install fails,,,,,, I don't believe there are any browsers left to run mydlink. Very frustrating. Sure wish Dlink would do something to get their program working with the browsers that are available. I hope they haven't given up on all of the faithful dlink ip camera owners.

Did you make sure you turned off FF's auto update feature?

What OS version are you using with FF?

I'll check with my Mac Book Pro 2018 OSX 10.14 and see if FF ESR is working or not. There maybe a setting in FF to force the browser to allow the plug in to work.

From what I gather, users will need to keep IE11 or FF ESR v52 loaded on a PC that will be backwards compatible for users with the model cameras listed in this thread. Going forward, from what I'm told, D-Link will not be making these model cameras compatible with newer versions of browsers or OS. The NPAPI based add-ons are what all newer browsers no longer support. These and the cameras FW would need to be updated on many levels.

Users may need to look into newer model cameras that are more supportive of newer browsers and OS systems if there older cameras are not working or accessible thru browsers and the portal.

Good Luck.

Ok, just got home and used FF ESR v52.9.0 64bit version of there browser on my Mac Book Pro 2018 OSX 10.14.6. FF first presented me with a block or accept message after I logged into the mydlink.com portal. I presume this is about the plug-in. I selected ALLOW and Remember. The plug in loaded and I saw 5 devices, 3 cameras and 2 routers. My DCS936L, 960L and 933L appeared. I was able to select all three and view the video coming from each camera.

I have to post a problem with the 960L that is generating a ticking sound coming from the camera when I enable the microphone. Goes away when I disable it. The other two cameras don't do this.

OK, thanks. It is working on my iMac 10.13 with FF, but the "manage plug-in use" icon is not showing up on the left side of the address bar. I sure hope there is a setting in FF to allow the plug-in to work.

Ok, thats good !  I must need to find FF ESR v52.9.0 since I am using FF ESR 52.0 (which I got from a thread on this forum Posted by GreenBay)

Hope I can find it and duplicate what you have working there.

Many Thanks,

RK

Hello FN,

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,52.9 loaded just fine,,but,,the plugin would not load regardless of what I did. Even tried a 51.0 load, same thing, "plugin install failed".

After about 15 of those messages following every adjustment I could think of, I went hunting for another solution. Now, getting late into the AM hours, I located directions for a "manual" plugin loading sequence. Was hoping to find something you could use and return the favor but you seem to be running just fine. Instead, I'll post the link here and forward the favor to those who can't get the Uplayer to install. Looks like it comes from the Brits on a Dlink site designed for iOS 10.12 but the great thing is, it worked great on my MacBook 10.14. Probably a simple solution for most but for a lot of us who are still learning the Mac systems it was a real nice find for me. Hopefully this will help some others back to using their cameras on Macs again.

It worked on the FF 51.0 so I loaded the FF 52.9 again and then followed this sequence:

https://eu.dlink.com/uk/en/support/faq/cameras-and-surveillance/mydlink/how-to-install-mydlink-plugin-on-mac-os-10_12

It worked there too, and still working great this morning.

1. Load FF 52.9 and "immediately" disable the auto update in preferences / advanced / update. (otherwise FF will go to 69.0)
2. Follow the steps on the link above and everything starts working with access to the "manage plugin" icon on the address bar.

I believe there is a thread on here for all the Uplayer install problems, hopefully this info will help some of those folks get mydlink working again.

Thanks again,

RK

But, this is just a dreaful performance bu D-Link,isn't.  Having to constantly do work arounds and use old browser versions is just pants.  D-Link need to get there stuff together.  My camerass about to go in the bin and I'll never touch D-Link again.

You'll have to keep a compatible browser install to be able to use mydlink.com going forward.
https://www.mydlink.com/faq?nocache=1595175956029&_=1595175956030#id-menu_SD18/ans-4 (https://www.mydlink.com/faq?nocache=1595175956029&_=1595175956030#id-menu_SD18/ans-4)

FireFox 52.9.0 (64-bit) works for me in OSX 10.14.6.

Good Luck.

Some might give this web browser a try to see if this works with D-Link cameras and the portal as a alternative web browser solution:
