After update to firmware 1.20 my router will not turn off guest wifi and my signal strength is weaker, had to do emergence firmware reset back to 1.13 to get it to work right.

hello again
its true wifi guest zone(2.4 ghz) stays enabled after update 1.20 even though you disabled in the interface when you log in the router configurations page. I found out when I was using the wifi analyzer and saw the wifi guest signal was broadcasting the 2.4 ghz signal. so I had to log in through my phone on the browser that will give you a desktop version or the mobile version so I went into the mobile version and disabled through there and no more guest popping out. I did the hard reset before and after when updating the firmware. and then when I found out about it I hard reseted again to see if it was just a glitch but it wasn't so I think the new firmware needs to patch this so no other person can piggy back on their signal.

I recommend downgrading to v1.13

A tech verified this issue and has reported it.
If you disable Smart Connect, you can then disable guest network and it won't broadcast. With smart connect enabled, guest network still broadcasts.
-
Thank you for the info.
-
Did you stay with v1.13 or can you update and disable Smart Connect and disable GZ?

I stayed with 1.13 until they fix the update and the low wifi signal as well
-
Ok.

I received a BETA firmware for this issue. There are 2 firmware files you have to update in order.
ftp://FTP2.DLINK.COM/PRODUCTS/DIR-895L/REVA/BETA/DIR-895L_REVA_FIRMWARE_v1.21b04_BETA.zip (ftp://FTP2.DLINK.COM/PRODUCTS/DIR-895L/REVA/BETA/DIR-895L_REVA_FIRMWARE_v1.21b04_BETA.zip)
Update the "middle.magic" file first. Then the other one.
Let us know if this works for you.
-
update magic.middle gives me firmware upgrade fail but if I skip that one to the next one it's successful please check bin. file for magic.middle I have restore to default my router also done the emergency recovery procedure and no go on it. also done upgrade procedure but still gives me the same failed message
-
What is this magic middle? ???
Doing any FW updates, please use and follow this process:

Not sure why they named it magic.middle lol
I will look into the firmware not upgrading.
-
Any status on this?
I stayed with 1.13 until they fix the update and the low wifi signal as well
-
Haven't heard back. I will ask.
-
The "middle magic" firmware file does NOT need to be installed. I will have the file removed from the file package.
-
Will the release notes be updated as well?
"Fixed the guest network always on issue. Install the middle.magic file first, then update the other file. Both must be installed to fix the issue."
-
Yes. File package is fixed as well as the "release notes".
-
Thank you.
Yes. File package is fixed as well as the "release notes".

But does it also fix the low wifi signal or just the guest on issue only, still not updating till a full fix is tested and out as of right now with 1.13 it is working with 10 IP cameras 3 desktop PC google home and 5 android devices, when last update came out could only use less then half of that.
-
You could update and check out the new FW. if you feel it doesn't work you can let us know and revert back to v1.13.
It's there for your use and should fix the issues seen.

Not sure if I can test it at this time current system can't be off line more then 5min and it would take longer to do that currently hopefully some else will be able to test before I can make time to shut down system
-
Maybe something late night if you can.
Hopefully someone else can test as well. ::)

Finally got to update but now a new issue that needs to be patched, now not all wifi devices are discoverable, they can see router but router and ip scanner can no-longer see them, so now it's back to 1.13 sad really but hopefully the tech can recrate issue and patch a fix
-
Sio the new v1.20 FW did not work?
???

it didn't fix issue so it looks like 1.13 is the better, hopefully tech's can patch issue by looking at all issues
-
I'll pass this on to D-Link for review and check on this. :-\
