Slow Transfer Speed
« on: October 29, 2009, 11:25:29 AM »

I own two DNS 343 units with 4 x 1.5 TB drives in each. I have a 1 gig switch that they are both attached to. I just had some problems with HD #1 in one of the units and now that I have swapped it out, I want to reformat this unit. I am transferring 2 gigs of Data to the other unit but the speed is only at 7.7 MB. At this rate it will take me a week to transfer all the data.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Nah..2GB of data at that rate will take an hour or 2. What is the transfer rate when reading and writing to and from each unit from your PC?

To and from the PC is quite fast. I just purchased a new computer with windows 7 and the fastest Intel i7 processor with 12 gig of ram..everything on this computer is fast. Just the transfer rate betwen the two units is very slow. It is now transferring at 8.0 MB. I even tried to enable jumbo frames, but to no improvement.

What is the transfer rate and is it the same to and from on both DNS-343 units?

The current transfer rate is 5.82 mb. I am only transferring one way right now, because I'm backing up the 1st NAS unit. According to the transfer rate, I should be finished in 20 hours!!

Strange I have transfered 1TB at about 7Mbps in about 8 or 9 hours. Oh I see you have the transfer going now so you cannot tell me the speed from your PC to each NAS right now.

I'm going to stop the transfer and push the files to my PC then back to the other Nas unit. I'll let you know.

I transferred 2 movie files from each of the two units back to my PC. They both transfer the files at approx. 30 mb

So transferring from NAS to NAS you get 7.7 Mbps and from PC to the same NAS you get 30Mbps??

From the NAS units to the PC I got 30 Mbps, from the PC to the NAS I'm getting (right now) 6.01 Mbps.

So you are able to read from the NAS at 30Mbps and write to it at 6.01 Mbps..correct? Just want to verify I have to correct information.

Have you tried setting a static IP address to the PC and DNS-343 and connecting them directly?
